Many of you are aware the recent, slanderous remarks made by Dick Pound
(McGill Chancellor & Olympic committee v.p.) regarding the "savagery" of
First Nations Peoples, were supported and enhanced by Globe & Mail
columnist, Margaret Wente (Oct.24).

The article Wente wrote was largely based on a book to be published next
month:
Disrobing the Aboriginal Industry:The Deception Behind Indigenous Cultural
Preservation 
by Frances Widdowson & Albert Howard.

According to Wente, this "impressive new book on aboriginal policy and
culture knocks the stuffing out of the prevailing mythology that surrounds
the history of first peoples [...]Ms. Widdowson says most of [traditional
knowledge] is useless - a heap of vague beliefs and opinions that can't be
verified or tested[...]People are reluctant to challenge indigenous
spiritual beliefs, no matter how absurd."


I would like to encourage the following boycott of the purchasing or use of
this publication.

Please circulate this intitiative to all your concerned contacts -
especially those within the academic realm, Native or non-Native. We must
raise our Own Voice to combat the epidemic of cultural misrepresentation,
misinterpretation and appropriation.
