Kwei - Bonjour,

Fred, thanks so much for this. Unfortunately, cannot meet at McGill.

For consideration:

Think it would be important to send many many letters/emails to President of McGill, all media (English and français), Association of Colleges and U, MPs, Senators, Prime Minister, Ministers INAC, Industry Canada, - especially those listed as Aboriginal; with cc to "Aboriginal' organizations and not to forget the Olympic organizations - especially that the meet in Canada is in Vancouver which is 'Aboriginal' land. One simply cannot have such a traitor in our midst representing anything in Canada.

By the way -

Mail may be sent postage-free to any Senator at the following address:
The Senate of Canada,
Ottawa, Ontario
Canada

Mail may be sent postage-free to any Member of Parlaiment at the following address:
House of Commons
Parliament Buildings
Ottawa, Ontario
Canada

It is a RESIGNATION - an apology is just not sufficient - would even think falls uder discrimination and racism - therefore - human rights violation - it is now 2008!!!!
An educator, and thereby a role model in the community that is to inspire - he certainly has no place in that environment.

Please keep me posted as intend to do my mailout and email over the weekend.

Megwitch. Merci.
amjf

Hello everyone,

My name is Fred, and I'm a Board Member of QPIRG-McGill. Recently,
McGill's Chancellor Dick Pound has been in the news for racist
comments made about indigenous peoples: apparently he thinks it's
acceptable to refer to the original and rightful owners of this land
as "savages". Thus far, he's refused to apologize.
(For more info, see: http://www.canada.com/topics/news/story.html? <http://www.canada.com/topics/news/story.html?id=1acb6487-4f6c-4e03-abf2-f18e880f2a0d>
id=1acb6487-4f6c-4e03-abf2-f18e880f2a0d).

The Assembly of First Nations of Quebec and Labrador is calling for
Pound's resignation as Chancellor. This seems only appropriate. Those
of us familiar with organizing in the McGill context know that this
type of comment is emblematic of the generally ignorant and nasty
attitude of those in power at the university. Pound can't be allowed
to get away with his disgusting racism.

Furthermore, the comments were made in the context of Pound's
position as Canadian International Olympic Committee representative.
As the 2010 Vancouver Olympics get set to roll ahead on stolen
indigenous land, and as mobilization and resistance meets with the
Olympic "Spirit Train" at every stop it makes, it seems like a good
opportunity to make some noise around this issue.

So, I'm hoping that people will be interested in organizing a broad
campaign calling for Pound's full apology and resignation as
Chancellor of McGill University. I'm proposing that anyone interested
meet at QPIRG McGill (3647 University) at 2PM this Saturday, October 25.

If you have any ideas or can think of others who might want to be
involved, let me know!

In Solidarity,

Fred Burrill
