Tansi/Hello ALL
LEAF (Womens Legal Education and Action Fund) Ottawa is hosting its
annual Persons Day breakfast on Tuesday October 14, 2008 at the
National Arts Centre. It is an annual breakfast to celebrate the 1929
"Persons Case" where women were at that time recognized as persons under
the law. They were granted the right to vote and recognized as "people."
In recognition of the "National Apology" to Indigenous people about
Residential Schools by the Canadian Government, the keynote speaker is a
Mohawk woman leader, Ellen Gabriel, President of the Quebec Native Women's
Inc.
LEAF Ottawa is collaborating with the Aboriginal Law Students Association
to bring attention to this important day in recognizing the advancements
made to womens equality. We invite you to attend and listen to this
inspiring speaker at the annual Persons Day breakfast organized by
LEAF.
