Good Day All!

There's lots happening,please especially note the trainings happening next
weekend, November 22 as part of Organizing for Justice!

1) TRAINING UPDATE

OPIRG-Carleton has been working with several groups in Ottawa to provide a 3
day conference called Organizing for Justice. This conference features
several panel discussions and workshops including anti-oppression and
consensus training.  These are required trainings for OPIRG volunteers and
we hope that you will a) attend b) spread the word! c) consider volunteering
if that interests you.

ORGANIZING FOR JUSTICE CONFERENCE
***remember to lug your mug and tupperware Saturday***

You are invited to participate in the upcoming "Organizing for Justice"
conference that is being held in Ottawa from November 20th to 22nd 2008.
There is no cost to participate. Donations are welcome and useful but not
necessary.

This conference is open to people involved and/or interested in community
organizing. The four main themes of the conference are: social justice;
economic justice; environmental justice and healthy communities.

Organizing for Justice presents a space for community organizers, activists
and interested individuals to come together, develop strategy, share vision,
and work on skills and tools that will help them in their efforts to effect
change.

This conference is brought to you by Common Cause Ottawa, OPIRG-Ottawa,
OPIRG-Carleton, the Students' Federation of the University of Ottawa.

2) INTERNAL ORGANIZING CALENDAR


There is now an internal organizing calendar up in the OPIRG office to help
a) book the OPIRG office & projector (and avoid double bookings) b) prevent
organizing competing events with other OPIRG groups and c) to help inform
people of next meetings and so on.

I can put your events and meetings on the calendar if I know about them or
if you are by the office you can add them yourselves!

3) JANUARY INFO FAIR

The Atrium has been booked for the OPIRG Info fair Tuesday Jaunary 13th and
Wednesday January 14th. Each working group will have space to table. It will
also be a time for Books to Prisoners to have their pay what you can book
sale.

4) CONSENSUS TRAINING

OPIRG-Carleton would like to offer the working groups consensus training
more specific to your group. This would involve a 1-2 hour  session on
general information about consensus, the roles involved with meetings, and
an overview of some of the resources and tools available to groups using
consensus process.

If your group would like to arrange a time for late November, December or
early January let me know.
