Hello IPSMO via Angela & Dan,
Please take a gander at the proposal below, and get back to me as soon
as you can.
affectionately,
Sarah!
Anti-Oppression Follow-up - Decolonization Teach-in (April 2nd)
OPIRG and the Women's Resource Centre have focused a great deal of
energy this year in regards to Anti-Oppression. In a continuing effort
to have anti-oppression training and action at the forefront of our
minds, hearts and activism we have arranged the winter semester to
include successive training and teach-ins. We would like to invite
IPSMO to actively participate in our April 2nd teach-in.
In January we hosted two day-long Introduction to Anti-Oppression
trainings. The next step is a deeper and more indepth Anti-Oppression
Training; focusing on organizing, action and solidarity. This training
will be presented as part of the Student Coalition Against War's March
29th Anti-War Teach-In.
Following this second day-long training, we will be hosting an
Introduction to Decolonization & Indigenous Solidarity Teach-In. The
goal of the teach-in is two-fold; to connect participants with
information & to provide outlets for further action. To this end we
are preparing for a four-hour evening session on Tuesday April 2nd.
Ideally, we would begin the night with coffee/tea/biscuits, doors
opening at 5pm. At 5:30pm the opening ceremony will commence.
Following this, a speaker would introduce the participants to the
Decolonization in a 45 minute talk, followed by a 20 minute question
period. A 15 minute break will follow. Claudette Commanda will likely
be our opening speaker.
The remaining two hours will be devoted to a participatory teach-in
whereby participants will be given tools for solidarity activism, as
well as an opportunity to become more familiar with decolonization
struggles in the Ottawa Valley & surrounding areas.
We would like to invite IPSMO to participate in this roundtable/group
breakout session. Yiou would be able to focus however you'd like to,
as long as you relate back to decolonization. We are also approaching
members of the Shabot Obaajiwan of the Algonquin Nation, Minwaashin
Lodge, and the Odawa Native Friendship Centre to participate as well.
Anyways in which you feel that you would like to contribute the event
would be welcome gladly, please don't hestitate to keep open
communication about what your needs & interests are.
Much love,
Sarah!
