Hi everyone,

Below is an event that looks like it will be really great. These are some of
the same people who played at the Anti-uranium mining Benefit Concert we had
at the Green Door this past September! We hope you can make it!

If you don't mind, please pass this around to other people you think might
be interested.

Thanks!

Angela Schleihauf and Margaret Sullivan

*SONGWRITERS' ROUND - SONGS Sung with heART *

* *

*On Saturday, March 8th at the NAC's 4th Stage, two-time Juno award winner
Jenny Whiteley will be joined by singer/songwriters **Christine**
Graves**and Jennifer
Noxon, Five Women and Some Art, and other special guest artists to raise
money and awareness in support of **The Community Coalition Against Mining
Uranium (CCAMU), and The Ardoch Algonquin First Nation* . The show starts at
8 pm. Doors open at 7:30pm. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at the NAC
Box Office, Ticketmaster.ca <http://ticketmaster.ca/>, and both
outlets of Compact
Music 613-233-8922.

March 8th is traditionally a day when people gather together to celebrate
women, their contributions to humanity and their struggle for equality,
justice, peace and development. In the true spirit of International Women's
Day, this evening of music and art is designed to entertain, to educate and
to celebrate. With shared concerns surrounding the uranium exploration
threatening 30,000 acres in the North Frontenac Mississippi watershed, these
performers and artists (most of whom live in the Ottawa Valley) are asking
others to help support the efforts of the CCAMU, the Ardoch Algonquin First
Nation and the Shabot Obaadjiwan First Nation in their fight against the
development of a proposed uranium mine.

The concert will take a festival 'workshop' type format, with Jenny,
Christine and Jennifer on stage at the same time, swapping stories and
songs. Dan Whiteley joins the musical mix on mandolin. Perth-based
silversmith and owner of Cornerstone Fine Canadian Art store in Kingston, Ellen
Fraser, will bring many great artists together for an art sale. The visual
art by Chandler Swain (painting), Mary Lee Laing (stain glass), Margaret
Crothers (painting), Five Women and Some Art and other special guests will
be displayed in the theatre and available for purchase throughout the
evening.

*Background*

*Jenny Whiteley*

Jenny Whitelely is an accomplished and gifted singer/songwriter with an
incredible voice. Being a prodigy of the well-known and musical
Whiteleyfamily, Jenny has been surrounded by music from an early
agewhen she appeared on
Raffi's hit "Baby Beluga".* *Whiteley re-appeared as a singer and bass
player in the Canadian bluegrass band Heartbreak Hill, which earned a Juno
nomination in 1998 for its only recording. Since the band broke up,
Whiteleyhas released three solo albums: her self-titled debut (2000),
Hopetown (2004), and Dear (2005), winning Juno Awards for Best Roots and
Traditional Recording: Solo for her the first two recordings in 2001 and
2004.

Jenny's voice also graces the work of other artists such as Prairie Oyster
re-released "Man In The Moon" (a song written by Jenny's father Chris,
incidentally), and Sarah Harmer's hit song "Basement Apartment".

She can be found on stage with the infamous The Hootenanny Revue, and
co-writes and performs with her husband and Juno nominated musician Joey
Wright. When not on the road, Jenny makes her home in Elphin,ON.

*Christine** Graves***

Canadian contemporary-roots songwriter Christine Graves says something new
and interesting with the poetry, space and texture of her songs. Her charm
is letting the audience read between the lines. With a voice that is at
times gritty, and at others as smooth as silk, Christine uses vocal
improvisation with her outside-the-box sense of melody. Having appeared on
radio and T.V. as well as hundreds of concerts at small and large venues and
festivals across the country, she has celebrated a burgeoning reputation as
a "…a major songwriting talent." (Alan Wigney, Ottawa Xpress Magazine).

2000 Graves was nominated for the KM Hunter Award by the Ontario Arts
Council. She fourth recording ' Wreckless Daughter' was released in 2006 to
rave reviews. Her other solo albums include: stray (2001), facing me (1998),
and piece by piece (1995). She lives in a renovated schoolhouse in Lanark
County. For more info: www.christinegraves.com

*Jennifer Noxon *

Jennifer Noxon is a painter, performing songwriter and educator. Her love
and fascination for people in all their complexity, the wonders of nature,
and the mysterious ways they entwine are evident in her music. Whether
transporting us into the paintings of David Hockney or onto the page of a
62-year old who has just learned to read and write, Jennifer introduces us
to an eclectic array of characters similar to those you might come across
while thumbing through your morning newspaper. Her infectious melodies are
delivered with a shimmering voice, guitar, and percussion. An award-winning
songwriter Jennifer has two acclaimed CD's – Watch as You Walk (1998) and
SWEET (2001). In addition to performing solo, Jennifer is one-third of
Frida's Brow, (with Chris MacLean and Alise Marlane) a dynamic trio that has
just released their debut self-titled CD. As a painter, Jennifer's exhibits
her work in various public and private spaces in the Ottawa region and makes
her home in the vibrant town of Almonte.
