Hello everyone,
I hope this lovely weather is treating everyone well!
I'm passing on a request from OCAMU regarding raising awareness about the
potential uranium mine which is on Algonquin land. Please look it over to
see whether you can spare an hour or two somewhere to help out.
Best wishes!

Hi all,
While Bob Lovelace has been released and all charges are dropped, this is
not the end of our fight. Frontenac Ventures is still moving forward, and
they are drilling in Bancroft. The McGuinty government thinks that will get
us to back down and stop protesting about the Uranium Mining part of the
issue. It is vitally important that we keep the momentum of these recent
victories and push for that moratorium!
To that end we are working on a plan (Michael Patenaude is spearheading a
coalition meeting with other interested groups in Eastern Ontario) to
present petitions and have a Day of Action in the fall at Queen's Park. We
will announce more on this later as plans formalize and coalesce.
Our big push now is for MORE public awareness - too many people still do not
know about the threat of Uranium Mining in Eastern Ontario and West Quebec -
and to get as many signatures on petitions as we can before the Day of
Action in the fall.
Even if you don't have enough time to attend OCAMU meetings, do you have
time to help out on public awareness events? All we are asking for is an
hour or two as you can spare it, to help us hand out flyers and get
signatures on the petitions. If you can take the message to a community
organization or group you belong to, that would be fabulous. If you know of
an event that would be good for handing out flyers and getting signatures,
and can coordinate volunteers, we will put out the call and provide you with
materials. David, Murray and others are speaking at churches, Riding
association meetings and other events. If you want someone to come out and
present to your group, we will do our best to be there.
To that end, there are three upcoming events which we could really use your
help with:
*Saturday and Sunday June 7-8:* "Art in the Park" Chandler Swain is
organizing and looking for volunteers in 1-2 hour timeslots. She has a
table, and we will provide all the materials. Please contact her directly
at cswain at storm.ca if you can help out for an hour or two during the
weekend. We still need volunteers. She is right of Bank street by the
entrance to the park. Come out any time tomorrow (sunday) and help!.
*Thursday, June 12 at WestFest: * Hand out flyers and get petitions signed.
We are meeting at 6:30 outside the Starbucks at Roosevelt and Richmond
Rd. Contact me at 613-853-4219 or via email at
natalie.prowse at netfacet.comif you can come and help out for an hour or
two that night.
We will have extra "kNOw-uranium.org" T-Shirts in case you don't have one.
*Friday June 13 at noon* on the bridge by old train station downtown
(between Elgin and Wellington) - across from the war memorial. The Liberal
convention starts that day at the Westin and Convention Centre, so we think
it's a great opportunity to do some public awareness. David has phone
number from CBC and he will try to get CBC television coverage. Can you
take an hour out at lunch time and join us? email me at
natalie.prowse at netfacet.com if you can help out.
We will have extra "kNOw-uranium.org" T-Shirts in case you don't have one.
*Saturday, June 14th, Kingston, the Bruce Coburn concert*. If you are
attending the concert, can you please help with handing out flyers and
getting folks to sign petitions? Contact Davig Gill and let him know you can
help out.
Thanks a bunch! I'll be posting more events as the come up. Just a couple
of hours of your time can go a LOOONG way!
-Natalie
