Dear Working Groups
Hope summer has been treating you well! The PIRG has been busy getting ready
for September and playing catch up on some tasks! I was hoping to check in
with folks, share some information and ask a few questions.

=========================================
As some of you may know the OPIRG operating and fiscal year is from
September 1st to August 31st. In practical terms for working groups this
means that:

 1) your budget line will be for the 2007-2008 year will be closed.FYI Money
is not carried over from year to year.

2) It's time to consider re-applying for working group status. The board
decided last year that all groups should re-apply each year. For groups that
currently exist and want to continue on come September you have the option
of submitting your application immediately. If you do not think your group
will continue come September please let me know!

3) Annual Report Submissions for your activities from September 1 2007 to
August 31st 2008. While the annual report won't be presented until the AGM
it is easier to get the content together in August and September while the
info is fresh! Generally the working group sections of the annual report
explain what the group is and does. This is accompanied by an outline of the
years activities and other info members feel important to include. Please
send this in when you get a chance.

=============================================

*Annual Programming and Working Groups*
Again some people may be familiar with OPIRG's Annual Programming. Our
Annual Programming is a skeleton of activities that happen each year. Of
course other activities take place but this is the minimum of what the board
and staff ensure happen. This programming in chronological order includes:
-->Rad Frosh (first week of September)
-->Monthly Film Screenings hosted by a working group
-->OPIRG Info Fair (second half of September or beginning of October)
--> Fall Colloquium Speaker (October-November)
-->Tools for Change Training (second half of September or beginning of
October)
-->OPIRG Info Fair (mid to late January)
-->Tools for Change Training (second half of January or early February)
--> Winter Colloquium Speaker ( January or February)
--> Terry Cottam Research Bursary (January -February)
--> OPIRG Annual General Meeting and Board Elections (March- May)

Working groups are invited to assist in annual programming in various ways.
*
Radical Frosh -* Working Group members over the years have helped make Rad
Frosh work! We need volunteers to get people registered on August 30th and
31st and then to be facilitators for the week and help ensure the events run
smoothly. The move in days (August 30th and 31st) involve having an OPIRG
room in the residence commons building where people register for the events
and get to know OPIRG. This means working groups can have some info about
what they do and generally folks want to know! Also the 3rd of September is
an OPIRG open house and the university Prelude ( both part of orientation
week). We are asking working group members to help staff the OPIRG table at
Prelude and to be around the office to talk to folks coming in or by! If you
are interested in any or all of this send me an email and I will give you
more details about the schedule and signing up as a facilitator.

*Tools for Change-* It is especially useful for working groups to suggest
topics that would be useful to them for the Tools for Change Training.
Alternatively if a working group would like to provide training on a
particular item that is also welcome!
*
Annual Colloquiums*- These have not yet been set and so now is the perfect
time to make suggestions for speakers! In the past some working groups have
bottom-lined organizing these so that is also an option (of course the board
and staff also pitch in!). Send your ideas my way soon- the board hasn't set
a specific time to talk about this but Fall is nearly here so I imagine it
will happen over August.

*Film nights*- Working Groups are required to host a film night. The idea is
to have at least one in Sept, Oct, Nov, Jan, Feb and March. If you know what
film you want to screen and which month- let us know. The sooner we get a
schedule for the Fall especially the more we can promote it! Especially
during Orientation week.
*
Info Fairs*- These are all about you! The work you do and sharing info with
interested passerby-s. So keep this in mind. Usually groups have a display
of some sort plus people there to talk to folks. This is a requirement for
working groups so might as well make the best of it!!!
==============================================
