*Campus Activist Training:TOOLS FOR CHANGE*

Please bring your lunch for friday, snacks will also be provided at 11:30am
but not a full meal. Pre- registration is not mandatory. There will however
be a meal offered at 4pm for folks who register (we need to know how much
food to get).
*To register please *send an email to vcopirg at gmail.com stating what
workshops you plan on attending and if you have any needs you want OPIRG to
consider in its planning (food sensitivities, accessible space etc.).
Some of the room locations haven't been set yet so keep posted and if you
aren't sure where they are on Friday there will be a sign up on the OPIRG
door (326 unicentre) outlining the schedule.

10:00 am to 11:30 am TBA Room Tory Building
* Consensus Decision Making *
Sick of meetings being dominated by a few individuals? Tired of not being
heard? This workshop will discuss the techniques for sharing power with your
fellow activists. It will provide tools to equalize participation among your
group of volunteers. This is a mandatory workshop for all OPIRG volunteers.
Facilitator: Dan Sawyer been around the block with consensus and , familiar
with the strengths and challenges of consensus is eager to go again!

12:00 pm to 2:00 pm Room 447 Tory Building
*Step Up, Step Back: An Introduction to Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression*
Come to this introductory workshop to learn how racism and oppression
interact with privilege and power.
How do you fit into all of this? How can we work together for change? This
workshop will allow you to explore these questions and more.
Facilitator: Shannon Willmott is working with the AIDS Committee of Ottawa
to create services that are Anti-racist and Anti-oppressive. This is an
ongoing project involving personal and agency self-examination,
education/awareness for staff and participants, as well as policy and
procedure overhaul. She has also worked with Ottawa Block of the People's
Global Action, most recently in mobilizing for against the SPP talks at
Montebello.

2:00 pm to 4:00 pm Room 447 Tory Building
*The Politics of Solidarity*
How should non-native anti-capitalist activists relate to indigenous
struggles? What are some of the tensions and problems that can occur in the
way that non-natives support indigenous struggles? What kinds of different
roles and responsibilities should white people and people ofcolor settlers
have in terms of how they relate to indigenous struggles and the non-native
communities that often oppose first nations land rights? This workshop will
address these questions within the context of non-native solidarity
organizing with the people of Six Nations.
Facilitator Tom Keefer is a Toronto-based anti-capitalist activist who has
been involved in supporting the struggle of the people at Six Nations of the
grand River for the past two years. An article he has written on this topic
is available at http://uppingtheanti.org/node/2728 and is
recommended background reading for this workshop.

Dustin Johnson of the Ts'mksi'yen Nation
"Although the Vancouver-Whistler 2010 winter Olympics are planned to take
place in only the st'at'imc and squamish territories, the negative effects
of these games wll carry out onto other indigenous territories of the area
and the aftermath of this will create an invasion ,not seen since the gold
rush."
