A group of people have come together around the solidarity work with the
Algonquins of Barriere Lake, and we are now proposing to form a collective
of people in Ottawa-Outaouais to work in alliance with Native activists,
primarily in the local region but also elsewhere as circumstances arise.

We believe that, as an immigrant/settler population, we need to work with
the original peoples of this land to organize and stand up for their rights
and to undo the process of colonialism and genocide that has been enacted
upon them. We recognize their status as nations equal in relations to the
Canadian (or American) state and not subjects of it, as the First Nations
that they are.

To this end, a formal gathering will occur this coming Tuesday to bring
together people who are interested in forming this broader coalition to work
with various specific initiatives (ie Barriere Lake, uranium mining,
Victoria Island Asinabka, ...) while also having a more holistic approach to
building supportive and collaborative long-term relations with the
Indigenous peoples of this land.


Please consider attending and participating in the discussion as we come
together to form this group's initial vision and strategy.
