JAILING SHAWN BRANT DOES NOT JAIL THE ISSUES:
Brant's Bail Review to take place on Prisoner Justice Day, August 10th

TYENDINAGA MOHAWK TERRITORY: On Friday August 10th, lawyers Peter
Rosenthal & Howard Morton will be arguing a bail review for Mohawk
activist Shawn Brant. Shawn was denied bail July 5th on charges from
the June 29th Aboriginal Day of Action relating to the closure of the
CN main line, a provincial highway and the 401.

The review will take place at 10:00AM at Napanee's Superior Courthouse
located at 97 Thomas St. E.

Arguing that the lower court erred in detaining Mr. Brant, lawyers
Peter Rosenthal and Howard Morton will submit that he should be
released immediately. "In my view, Mr. Brant's continued detention
pending both the preliminary inquiry and subsequent trials runs
contrary to both the Charter of Rights and the Bail Reform Act of
1976," said Mr. Morton.

Speaking from the quarry site where Tyendinaga Mohawks have been
residing since late March, Dustin Brant said, "By jailing Shawn, they
have tried to silence the person they see as responsible for exposing
Canada's shameful legacy towards First Nations. But jailing Shawn
Brant does not jail the issues. The water pollution, the suicides,
the land issues still exist. We won't let the government forget their
responsibilities like they are trying to make people forget about
Shawn."
