Date: Mon, 9 Jul 2012 18:05:14 -0400 Subject: a message from student solidarity Message-ID: this is a release from student solidarity hamilton please read carefully! The current student strike in Quebec began in February of this past year, and has evolved into one of the most powerful and vibrant social movements in Canadian history. Lasting now for almost two hundred, boasting crowds of more than 300 000, and holding at least one demonstration every single day, this is a powerful image of a society in revolt, playing out in real time just a short drive away. However, coverage of the strike tends towards the sensational, and it's very difficult to find reliable English-language news and commentary on the situation. In response to this, three members of the the largest striking student association in Quebec, la Coalition Large de l'Association pour une Solidarit? Syndicale ?tudiante, or la CLASSE as it's better known, are currently on a speaking tour through Ontario. They will be stopping in Hamilton this Saturday, July 14, at 6pm in the council chambers of Hamilton's city hall (on Main between Bay and MacNab) to discuss the strike, the organizing that lead to it, and where it can go from here.
