Happy summer, Freeskoolers!
It has been some time since the last Freeskool update, but in the
intervening months some summer term classes have begun, others have
developed attendance, and we are pleased to be welcoming *four* sensational
individuals as new Hamilton Freeskool Organizers! John, Devon, Alicia and
Holly have all been variously involved with Freeskool-related endeavours in
the past and have their own passions and expertise to inject into our
community, so we have a diverse crew of organizers at your service. We are
always striving to improve the radical inclusivity to which we aspire so if
YOU would like to become more involved, or have ideas for how different
parts of Hamilton can benefit from Freeskool, or how we can strengthen our
existing connections, please email us - the measure of our Freeskool
community is the participation of its members. We are, after all,
*together* facilitating
learning in our community. Given recent world-scale events that became
focused at the G20 in Toronto, it seems more crucial than ever that people
come together to collaboratively broaden and educate ourselves, and reach
out to others.
In that spirit please look over this list of our current and upcoming
classes and facilitators. Many are establishing themselves right now so
please don't be shy - email facilitators to find out whatever you want to
know! Be a part of the class as it takes shape.
*Arts & Creativity*, facilitated by Peter (peter.rogers at gmail.com)
*Spanish*, now facilitated by Alicia (alicia.ridge at gmail.com)
*Jam Jams*, facilitated by Rachel (rache.nolan at gmail.com)
*Qi Gong*, facilitated by Brad (nacken3 at hotmail.com)
*Bike Fixing*, facilitated by Holly (knotholly at gmail.com)
*Vegan Baking II*, facilitated by Amy (amy.vegan at riseup.net)
*
*
*Documentary Discussion*, facilitated by Rachel (rache.nolan at gmail.com)
*
*
*Tour de Freeskool*, facilitated by Maggie and Dan (
magdalena_szkarlat at hotmail.com or chavezdaniel92[@gmail.com)
Bike fixing, our new Spanish class, Jam Jams (any-level musical group
improv) and Documentary Discussion are building membership so please contact
facilitators at this point so that you can help shape the class so that it
is most accessible to you. If you are not currently attending any Freeskool
classes, consider joining in! You don't have to come out every week to every
class, but it's always the best way that you can support what Freeskool
stands for by being one Freeskooler, dedicated to whatever degree you can
be. And this is, if we may be so bold, probably the most radical way that
you can add some structured edification to your week!
Not stirred by what is currently on offer? (Really? not even enough to
contact a facilitator and ask how it could be made accessible to you?)
Well, first of all stay tuned! This is the most current list, however a
small number of classes are being revamped, and we have had some excitingly
compelling new ideas for classes put forward recently so we should be
announcing them very soon!
As always, the second thing you can do is to start your own class! We know
you are passionate and curious. What would you like to do more of? Start a
class! Broaden your mind, alongside others who want nothing more than to
join you in that endeavour. Talk to us. We'll set you up.
*That's all for now, *except to say yeeeah, we are grateful to have just
received a gift donation from CUPE 3906 in support of our efforts since
inception, representing more meaningful endorsement from a diverse Hamilton!
Everyone can see that Hamilton Freeskool is a part of something wonderful.
Wicked, thanks for your support, looking forward to seeing you in class!
Rachel, for Freeskool.

"If modern industrial education—and more broadly industrial
civilization—requires "the subsumption of the individual," that is, the
conversion of vibrant human beings into "automata," i.e., into a pliant
workforce, then the most revolutionary thing we can do is follow our hearts,
to manifest who we really are."
