[GSA Council] Notice of resignation.

Hi all,

Thank you for your replies. First of all, I would like for all of you to
know that my decision was not made lightly; as pointed by Breanna, I am
well aware that I represent a large body of students and their interests.
Bre, you do make a good point in that the last thing that I wish is for the
rest of the councilors to bear the burden of my resignation. However, I
feel that the burden of those who make it extremely difficult for us to
execute one of the very few mandatory tasks that we have, to meet monthly,
is falling on all of our shoulders. Trying to schedule a meeting has not
only been difficult for its usual reasons (that we all have different
schedules), but also because some of the directors simply fell off the map.
Not having the courtesy to send their regrets or even check out a couple of
boxes online is not only disrespectful for those who do so, but it also
makes it extremely difficult for the rest of us to carry on with basic
business. In here, I am not referring to those who weren’t able to come to
previous meetings (as I have missed a couple as well), but to those who
have made it so much more difficult than it should have been.

I know that some of you have been working very hard on the sustainability
policy. I have seen how some of the councilors have actually succeeded to
make their efforts count. Unfortunately, this has not been the case for me.
I prefer not to get into detail about why I felt that this wasn’t, overall,
a rewarding learning experience, as it would require me to do some
finger-pointing; I’d rather not. That being said, I am not going to dismiss
my fellow councilor efforts; if my presence in the association makes a big
difference for Sherif and Breanna’s policy, I will stay on until the end
(which for me, due to research-related commitments that require me to
travel outside of the country, is the first week of May).

There are other concerns that I have with the current handling of
information, but rather than turning this into an unproductive e-mail war,
I’ll approach the concerned individuals personally.

Lastly, I understand that some of you were surprised by my e-mail; though I
don’t understand why I was singled out. My reasons were just as valid as
academic, personal or work-related concerns that led others to resign. I
freely decided to be more specific because it would have been false for me
to justify my resignation on the grounds of personal concerns.

Hopefully, Carlos will be able to set up a council meeting before April.
