[GSA Council] Time Sensitive Motions

Hello Everybody,

As you are all aware the last council meeting did not meet quorum. We had
some time sensitive motions on the agenda, which should not wait for the
next council meeting.

It is very important that the ASEQ contract is renewed early enough before
the BOG meeting. We need to ensure that we have a plan administrator for
the 2016-2017 term and we need to send the information on the fees as soon
as possible so it is programmed in the schedule of fees for 2016-2017. If
we need to add benefits we can do so at the next meeting.

The staff positions is very important and time sensitive as well. Our
collective agreement expires on May 31, 2016. We need to open negotiations
soon, and we have to conclude the agreement before we open negotiations.
The agreement will be added as an appendix to the present collective
agreement and only divides a position being held by one person into two
separate positions to be held by two people. We need to hire before the
agreement expires because there we cannot say for sure how long the
negotiations will take.

The third motion is for the appointment of a graduate representative to the
provost search committee. This is a BOG committee, which does not need the
appointments committee recommendation. I am the GSA representative to the
BOG but need our approval to sit on this committee. Terry, the CSU general
coordinator who represents the CSU on the BOG is on this committee.
Graduate students do not have a voice there. Interviews will be held this
Friday, May 6, 2016.


We are all representing students and need this approved for the best
interest of the Graduate Students Association and graduate students in
general. Council has things that need to be done for students during the
time left in our mandate. These are some of the things, but due to their
time sensitive nature, we need all directors to send in written resolutions
for the motions below:

1. ASEQ - Health and Dental Plan Contract renewal

BIRT council approves the renewal of the contract with ASEQ for the GSA
health and dental plan.
BIFR that the current plan fee is maintained without any increase.

2. Letter of agreement for new staff positions

Whereas new staff positions were earlier created by council.
Whereas these positions require an letter of agreement with the union to
update the collective agreement.
BIRT council approves the letter of agreement with the union for the
Graduate student advocate position, the department/Faculty Manager
position, the communications coordinator position, and the campaigns
coordinator position.

3. Appointment to Provost Search committee.


BIRT Alex Ocheoha be appointed as the Graduate student representative on
the Provost Search committee.
