[GSA Council] Confidential: 5 YEARS & NEARLY A MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!!

Fellow GSA councillors,

On Tuesday evening, I attended a *very important* meeting with the GSA's
lawyers as well as Roddy, Houda, and Erik Chevrier (former
councillor/exec/BoG rep/senator). And here's what I learned...

*It is CRITICAL that you attend the emergency Council meeting THIS FRIDAY
at 3pm!*

Seriously, this is the GSA's most urgent issue in a long time. Nearly a
million dollars (and possibly more) are at stake. There is only one topic
on the agenda, and the meeting will likely be finished in less than an
hour. *So please be there on FRIDAY at 3pm!*

*Here's a brief explanation of the background:* The GSA used to be part of
the Canadian Federation of Students (CFS), but our members voted to
disaffiliate in 2010. However, the CFS refused to recognize this vote,
claiming that the GSA owes them money. So the GSA took the CFS to court,
and now after *5 YEARS* the CFS has offered the following settlement: they
will recognize the GSA's disaffiliation if we pay them *$780,635.85.*

Of course, this amount is *way too high*, but our lawyers think they can
negotiate a much better deal that would *a)* cost us significantly less
than proceeding with a trial; *b)* avoid the possibility of losing a trial,
and; *c) *allow us to finally disaffiliate from the CFS and end this mess
ONCE AND FOR ALL!

Should we settle? How much are we willing to pay? Where will the money come
from? Time is limited, and *our lawyers need us to make a decision THIS
FRIDAY!*

As you can understand, I can't go into more detail because this information
is *CONFIDENTIAL *and might be used against us if it gets into the wrong
hands. So if you want to find out, you need to be at the GSA House on *FRIDAY
at 3pm*.

Also, you can contact *Erik Chevrier* (who is the co-plaintiff in this

is very friendly and professional and will be happy to answer all of your
questions about the case. He will also be available at the GSA House from
5:30 to 7:30pm on Thursday, and from 1:00 until the meeting on Friday.

Roddy and Houda will also be happy to answer your questions.

I can't stress enough how important it is that you attend this Council
meeting and be a part of this big decision. I hope you will be there and
make the right choice!
