[GSA Council] urgent!!! Feb council meeting

Hello again!

Given the surge of interest in this discussion, I would like the
opportunity to clarify and expand on my previous comment.

First of all, I do see some benefit in having Alan Shepard address a
Council meeting. I'm also not opposed, in theory, to the establishment of a
regular meeting time every month. In practice, however, we have chosen not
to go this route because it means that anyone with a standing commitment at
that time (i.e. a class) will be forced to resign. Maybe a good compromise
would be to alternate between, for example, the first Monday of one month
and the first Friday of the next. Or maybe we should fix the meeting
schedule permanently in the bylaws so that anyone joining Council next year
would know to keep that time free.

In any case, Council does not answer to the President of Concordia (as nice
as he may seem) or even to the President of the GSA (as much as we all love
her). I have stressed this before: Council meetings must take place on our
terms. We answer only to each other and, above all, to our members. Please
keep this in mind.

I look forward to having Shepard join us, but also keep in mind that if
he's coming, it's with his own agenda. He's essentially a career politician
and is going to come prepared to lobby us at least as much as we will him.

Finally, Ribal, if you say you are LITERALLY lost for words, it means you
have nothing to say. ;)

See you all soon!
Jon
