I remember my words and I stand by my words. Everything I wrote was based on facts. I attended most of the council meetings in the past 4 years. There was a lot more, but the article was shortened because of a word limit. The time spent discussing the bursary policy does not add value to students or the association. The inappropriate application of the bursary policy by a few people affects the performance of executives and makes it difficult for a productive and satisfying work life.
A lot less time can be spent discussing the policy. Executives last year had their complaints. This year, someone is using the policy to harm people (and indirectly families), to settle scores, to micromanage using motions and threats. Executives in other student associations in Canada are not treated in this manner, and neither are executives in for profit corporations.
I have always been a straight forward person. The way I present myself in front of other is the way I am, and people who have known me over the years know that. You are trying to give people a different impression about me. This is not helping the association. As a director should be working in the best interest of the association, not against it. If you really know what people think of the GSA, you would not be making it worse. People are known by their words and actions.
Regarding the GSA Cricket kit. I want to clarify that the reason why it was sent to council was to withhold your honorarium because you owe GSA money in unpaid fines. It may be difficult to recover this money from you after you complete your term as a director. For your information, I do not have any conflict with you, you are the one attacking me for reasons unknown to me.
The contract you signed to borrow the cricket kit is binding on you. The legal principle is undoubted. You have no right to retain the cricket kit or convert it to your property. I will advise you not to involve anybody else in it. I did not threaten you with any recovery agent but informed you that I will let the recovery agent do his job after your countless promises to return. I am only doing my job and obviously have to use legal means to recover GSA's property.
GSA does not exist in a vacuum. When I say something is against the law I do not mean to threaten you but to point you in the right direction. If you recognize that an act is wrong, but decide to do it, it then means that you are willing to accept any consequences that may arise from your actions. Having closed non-transparent debates in secret gives the impression that there is something to hide. The intent, the actions and the effects can be seen. In future, you will be asked questions about the warning letter I received because of the false information you provided.
I do impose decision but rather request for decisions by making my points. I bear a lot more responsibility than you think. If there are complaints or things go wrong, I will be the first person to be questioned or summoned. If I was not the president, I can put in only 15 hours per week considering the current circumstances. I perform a host of other functions which I do not include in my report, such as student advocacy, union negotiations, administrative tasks, meetings, email correspondence, event logistics and responding to student queries. Academic and career related events require a lot of advanced planning.
I have seen serious conflicts in my home country and other places in Africa start from little things like hate speeches. Discrimination does not only exist when different races are involved, because there is also discrimination between people of the same race. I have been subjected to a lot of things I find offensive and I am still confused on why this particular individual does that. I have still treated everyone with respect.
I believe that if we all work together we can fulfill the objectives of the association, and have some achievements to show when we leave in a few months.

In the GA committee meeting, where VP Mob was chair and present, the following was discussed: Bahvreet is leaving for a month and someone needs to take care of her mandate. We can either hire someone for a month, or, as Jawad proposed and Bahvreet immediately agreed to, Jawad can take care of the VP Mob mandate for a month, including the January GA. So, as the rest of the GA committee members proposed, Jawad can get paid for fully taking care of the VP Mob mandate.
If people disagree with the proposal of the GA committee, we can vote on it. If you think Jawad is unsuitable for the job, kindly propose someone else who can take care of the VP Mob mandate until Bahvreet returns. The GA committee still proposes that the person taking the job be paid 1100$ for the month he/she works.
As for getting paid for taking care of VP Mob's job. I think the word you might have been looking for is 'training' which is a necessary evil when one who is inexperienced in a field needs to be indicated what to do, and sometimes shown what to do, until said individual feels comfortable doing said job. Then again, perhaps helping VP Mob with her mandate is a terrible thing to do. I mean, what kind of monster does that?
Anyway. Moving on.

The motion this is referring to was proposed by Aria and I, and not by Alex or Rupinder. Furthermore, Aria and I were referring to the senate elected representatives, like Khushboo, because [to our knowledge] they do not get no honorarium for attending senate meetings. Perhaps that was not clear in the motion, but we can clarify it in council when we discuss it. I just wanted to express that the 50$ for attending senate meetings was not about the execs. I wrote the motion, so I take the blame for this misunderstanding.

If you were serious when you writing these sentences then you can understand the changes. What you really are is not what you present in front of others. At least I present myself the way I am in front of others. And I really know that some people have issues with the way I am in council.
Regarding the GSA cricket kit, I asked you to renewable my contract based upon the difficulties I was facing caring a 2 bags of 10 Kgs each. And the contract was signed in good faith. So you pretty well know that if there was anything missing and damaged at them time I give it to GSA when I would have paid for the loss. But you decided not to do so because of your conflict with me like always. And then you threatened me telling me that you have a recovery agent signed for this job when I mentioned to you that I will get it by Thursday. Now if you are stubborn with your opinions then please don't misunderstand that others wont and especially not against me.
You talk about other 16, well let me be clear that I don't care what the other 16 think about me, I talk on my own will and not all the fingers are of same hand are similar in height. I have my own thoughts and if I feel something is wrong then I will raise my voice against irrespective of what others think about me. At least I don't play a double game like others (To the one who does that very often) I stand on my point and I present it in front of every one and then let council decide what is wrong and what is right.
If I was so against you then I would have had boycotted the October meeting and your pay would have been tabled for the next month meeting. If I wanted to spread negativity i could have done that by telling council and execs as joke in front of everyone as others do and would rather have happily came to council to just see the circus happening in there.
After all that happens in council meeting, I still go out of council with a smile and having no personal roughness against any others. I don't talk to some council members because that's my choice to avoid conflict and you have seen a hint of what exactly happens if someone comes and picks up they fight against me.

In 6 months that sum up to 10 council meetings which mile stones have we achieved? We fight with each other! We block each other’s emails! We talk behind the back! And all this for what? At the end of the day we our self's our proving that how venerable we are when it comes to speech. We talked about working together and working for each other and for members but at the end of the day what exactly are we doing? Someone talks behind my back telling there should be complain against me for the way I talk and someone else comes and joins the conversation by telling that yes there should be complain and all for what? More than half of the council has no motion to present in the council meeting. Can I know why? We are so stuck with the fight over advocacy and French classes but in these 6 months what so special have we been able to achieve apart from parties? If party and food is the only thing we are good at then I would like to give my 57$ to my departmental association. At least there we get to attend the workshops and career fairs with parties now and then.
Why don't we do the maths? If ECSGA and JMSB comes out of GSA what will we be left with? Being an umbrella association why do we have so much of ego to bond with our own sub associations and plan for workshops and things like that together?
My dear Executives members,
How many of you all are the face of GSA, in outside world people hardly know who are the directors or what are the directors doing. People watch you all are doing and not how many motions has been passed or what motion has been passed.
Stop telling that you have put 40 hrs. or 100hrs. I don't care about the numbers of hours you put in your report in total. Don't fool others by showing that you work from morning 8:30 am to 4:30 pm for five days a week. During some months of the year where you have to work for more than 40 hrs. A week but there are also months where putting a mere 15 hrs. a week with intentions for a great good of GSA can show a lot more than your current reports.
Dear Jawad, you want extra 1100$ to take over VP Mobs work load right? Well if I am not wrong then you are doing hardly any major thing on your mandate. Chalet was planned by you. Thinks giving dinner which you were clamming to have got the cheapest price in the market but the fact speak something else.

Alex, you were telling right that I create negativity, well now you have your chance prove me wrong and I will respect you for getting the GSA back to its feet. If your proven to be wrong then the entire blame goes on you and then I don't want you say that the council was the cause.

The issue with Keroles will be resolved. I did not initiate the problem. The GSA has been closed down several times in the past because of conflicts. It has never been my intention to create any conflict. I was told initially that the other 16 should be able to call the oversight committee to order and avoid a conflict. I came to the university primarily to study and get a degree. Litigation is sometimes inevitable in some complex cases. I am not afraid of litigation, because I did not do anything wrong. I do not think that anybody can function effectively in such an environment. In politics, people put their differences aside and work together for the good of people.
Sometimes a simple solution to a problem might be treating me as human being, and listening to me. A good example is GSA’s cricket kit, which you should tell others the truth about. You borrowed the kit on behalf of an association that is not registered. You did not respect the contract you signed, which I expected you as a director to do so. I gave you a simple solution to bring back the kit, we inspect it and you enter another loan agreement, but you refused to do so. You now have a problem with me because I want to recover equipment that has been recovered twice in the past by other executives. I know the history from when the cricket kit was bought. No association rents their equipment indefinitely. You are the person trying to create a conflict out of this.
I decided to run for the position of president because I wanted to help improve the association. If I do succeed we all get the credit, so I see no reason why you should be trying so hard to break me down. You bring up motions against me, which do not help students, but interferes in my work. I am sacrificing my time not because I want to but because I want the GSA to function effectively. I would have achieved a lot more by now if I did not have to deal with issues coming from people like you that insult me.
You say that the greater issue GSA is facing right now is advocacy center, language classes, and academic events. On the academic events, I started planning for that despite it not being on my action plan for this semester. The language classes will start in January and will be a lot better. The French classes will help people who want to apply for immigration. We also hope to start the advocacy center in January. The office has been set up and is waiting for the hiring of the advocates. The delay was beyond our control. There have been no complaints about student advocacy, which an important service that the GSA provides. The students who are benefiting from this service appreciate my time.

I will ignore the material you copied and pasted on democracy and ethics from the link above, and only comment on human rights. I don’t understand why you will suggest zero bursary for an executive if you are enlightened on human rights. I don’t know how you will feel or react if you work for 40hr/week you are not paid. I don’t know if you will be full with joy if I am not paid. I don’t know if you will list that as an achievement on your CV or in a job interview. I don’t know why you started attacking me in the first instance.
GSA is temporary position at a point in your life. I would not know what to say if you look back to this time 10 years from now and say you did the right thing. Associations put politics aside after elections. In actual politics some opponents hug each other after elections. People with differences of opinion usually agree through compromise not Coercion. Forcing somebody to do what you want without listening to their opinion is either wickedness or slavery, if you are not paying for every extra hour. If every director does the same thing as you, I will have people pulling me in many different directions.
I considered resigning because of the abuses I have been going through. I did not resign because of the students that voted for me, plus the other 16 directors and what I am hoping that we achieve. I was gaining a lot more before I started this position. I am not in this position for my personal interest but for the interest of the association.

There are even more greater issue GSA is facing right now, like we lack in advocacy center, we lack in the language classes, we lack in academic events and many more. And nothing has happened for these issues apart from statements being written on paper referring to the work in progress tag. And your lack of diligence for the respective issues is aren't compatible to get the outcome.
You won the election because of democracy and not because of presidential rules. And so did all of use who are on the council and on the executives committee.
Let me enlighten you with the principles of Democracy: Rule of law, freedom of press, respect of human rights, active political processes & enlightened citizens.
Each of these 'basic' to democracy, meaning that democracy can't exist without all of them.
1. The Rule of Law - we are a association governed by laws, not by men. Directors, Presidents and legislatures can't just do whatever they can get away with, they are limited by law. Laws represent the will of the people.
2. Freedom of the Press - in a democracy it's people, the voters, who are ultimately in control. The people need information in order to vote wisely, and that's why we need a free press and freedom of political speech.
3. Respect of human rights - we must realize that people are the most important thing, the purpose of government is to serve the needs of the people, not vice versa. This is the main reason for the Bill of Rights.
4. Active Political Processes - democracy is not a spectator sport, it's a participation sport. It won't work if most people don't take part. A lot of the trouble we've been having in the US can be blamed on the lack of participation of so many people, small voter turnouts, etc. The more people who care enough to vote, and who then stick around to see how their votes turned out, the better off we'll be.
5. Enlightened Citizens - This is another problem we have here. Citizens must be educated and must understand the purpose of democracy, how and why we have it. This takes a high literacy rate (along with a free press).
So we have our own set of bylaws and we are not ignorant enough to read it and not understand. So please stop imposing the act in which come up with you laptop telling us that it's against the law.
You talk about ethics, well by the you represent ethics it appears that you have no understanding of the difference between person, professional and global ethics.

Impartiality; objectivity Openness; full disclosure. Confidentiality Due diligence / duty of care.Fidelity to professional responsibilities. Avoiding potential or apparent conflict of interest
Even when not written into a code, principles of professional ethics are usually expected of people in business, employees, volunteers, elected representatives and so on.
Principles of Global Ethics
Global ethics are the most controversial of the three categories, and the least understood. Open to wide interpretation as to how or whether they should be applied, these principles can sometimes generate emotional response and heated debate.
Principles of Global Ethics include:
Global justice (as reflected in international laws) Society before self / social responsibility Environmental stewardship Interdependence & responsibility for the ‘whole’Reverence for place
Each of us influences the world by simply existing; and it is always wise to ‘think globally’. An added measure of accountability is placed on globally influential enterprises such as governments and transnational corporations. (Responsibility comes with power whether we accept it or not.) One of the burdens of leadership is to influence society and world affairs in a positive way. Can a person, nation or company truly be ‘successful’ while causing human suffering or irreparable environmental damage? A more modern and complete model of success also considers impact on humanity and the earth’s ecology.
I hope you can stop sending us all that long essay at 3 AM in the night and start focusing on the issue GSA has rather than your personal interest.

But can you please avoid for the lawyer presentation? I know you're concerned about the way the council of directors are working right now but this is not the right time.
We have quite a lot of agenda on the table today and the presentation and stuffs like that takes time so please ask him to present it in the January council meeting. The guess that will be appropriate time for this.

The meeting with ASEQ today went really well yesterday. They presented us with the data which we requested. The claims report was for 2 years but we suggested that they make a claims report for 5 years.
The claims report will be presented to council in January. Another date will be arranged to make the presentation the Annual Claims Report, Change of Coverage Update, and Plan Overview to directors. This can also be done during the council retreat.
I apologize for the short notice in sending the invitation earlier. The meeting was supposed to be with execs but the invitation was extended to directors and staff last minute.
I invited a lawyer to make a presentation to directors on the rights and responsibilities of directors. This is not my lawyer but a lawyer who has a specialty in not-for-profit organizations and community groups. An arbitrator will try to resolve the dispute between me and Keroles.
