[GSA Council] Draft minutes from March 24 council and notice for April meeting

Hello all,

I could recall that Korosh moved the motion, but didn't second it otherwise the chair wouldn't have let us discuss it. However, I don't remember who seconded the motion. There were a few instances in that meeting where motions were discussed without being seconded, but the Chair (or another director) always called us to order. I hope this gives some clarification to the discussion.

Hey Gretchen,

I would like to hear from someone other than the actual mover of the motion on this topic before council adopts these minutes.

It was very clear to me that Korosh moved and motivated for the motion. Discussion was had well before Eftakhairul's name was added to the motion. In order for any motion to be entertained, it must be proposed and seconded. Associations names to the motion should be the first order of business, and it is fairly clear that Korosh was the person introducing as well as motivating.

Again, this is a matter that council needs to address as a whole.

This  motion approved unanimously by the councilors no one opposed the motion.

Any one including executives and councilors can put motion in agenda and ask for some one

to move it I put the motion there but councilors not only opposed but also supported the motion.

I don’t even think but am pretty sure that this motion completely reflect the actual happening.

It is very surprising that some people are not aware  of the way that council works after SEVERAL years.

The motion and the motion should have been failed.  

I was the person who asked for the  motion and Eftakhairul is the person who moved it this is completely clear to any one

who read minutes.

Hey,

just wanted to point out a clarification to a motion.

CO-20150324-04 was originally motioned by Korosh. Eftakhairul's name was only substituted after Houda pointed out that this was a conflict of interest. I don't think this is transparent and the motion does not reflect the actual happenings of council.

If a director is uncomfortable having their name associated with council business, it is their responsibility to remove themselves from the process entirely. Motioning and then substituting their name for another director is misleading to the membership.

This call was supposed to be sent out on March 25th, and it is now April 1st. I believe this falls under the duties of the President ("1.12 "Manage internal communications of the G.S.A."; "1.13. Oversee all managers") and the VP Internal ("Oversee and supervise the work and tasks of the Finance Manager."; "2.10. Help to oversee internal managerial positions"). 6.1 Re-opening the Call for Applications for a Finance Manager (Isabelle) 

Motion CO-20150324-08

Whereas the GSA is funded by its members and is therefore accountable to its members; 

Whereas the GSA can best serve its members through responsible spending, sharing budgets and financial reports with its members in a timely manner in accordance with our bylaws, and being as transparent as possible about its finances; 

Whereas the Finance Manager plays an important role in carrying out the aforementioned practices and therefore requires a person with the competence, knowledge, and integrity necessary to perform these functions, and furthermore, as per article 11.1 of the GSA bylaws "staff positions shall be made available exclusively to members of the G.S.A."; 

Whereas the call for Finance Manager went unnoticed by many of our members; 

BIRT the call for Finance Manager shall be re-opened for a period of 5 days; 

Amendment:

BIRT the callout to hire a new finance manager will be reopened from Friday the 25th of March to Friday the 17th of April
