Reported actions for September/October 2003 have been compiled below with information made available by press offices and the media. A reminder that the ELF Press Office is in need of funds and can be supported through cheques or international money orders (money orders preferred) made out to the ELF Press Office and mailed to: Press Office, P.O. Box 21554 - 1424 Commercial Dr., Vancouver, BC, V5L 5G2, Canada. September 06, 2003 - Santa Fe, New Mexico Earth Liberation Front Action ELF takes action against SUV dealer in New Mexico - spraypainting SUVS with messages naming the seven deadly sins. 1/3 of the dealership's stock was marked, leaving thousands of dollars in damages. The SUVs at a Land Rover dealership were painted with words like "Avarice" and "Gluttony" Thursday night or early Friday morning, Santa Fe police said. The initials "ELF" where among the messages, indicating a claim of responsibility by the ELF. (Information fron ELF Press Office) September 19, 2003 - San Diego, California Earth Liberation Front Action A fiery Earth Liberation Front action against urban sprawl in the early morning hours of September 19, 2003 did at least $1 million in damages in the upscale Carmel Valley neighvourhood of San Diego, California. A banner found at the site of one of the fires read "Development destruction. Stop raping nature. The ELFs are angry," indicating a claim of responsibility by ELF activists. The fires took out four houses under construction in two areas of the neighbourhood. This was the fifth action in 2003 against urban sprawl known to have been the work of the Earth Liberation Front. (Information from the ELF Press Office) September 23, 2003 - Mecosta County Michigan Earth Liberation Front Action The Earth Liberation Front Press Office received a communique from the Earth Liberation Front claiming incendiaries left at a pumping station supplying a water bottling plant owned by Nestle Waters North America (formerly known as the Perrier Group of America) in Mecosta County, Michigan. According to news reports, these incendiaries failed to ignite and were removed from the station without incident. Although the incendiaries failed to ignite, the ELF has sent a message that the commodification of water is an attack on a fundamental right of all beings and must be stopped. The communique follows: When all legal avenues of dissent have been undertaken to no avail, only one option remains. Illegal Direct Action. The people of Michigan have stated very clearly that we do not want a Perrier Bottling Plant. We've had enough of empty political rhetoric about freedom and justice, enough of sitting back while our most basic rights are handed over to corporations. Clean water is one of the most fundamental necessities, and no one can be allowed to privatize it, commodify it, and try and sell it back to us. We will no longer stand idly be while corporations profit at the expense of all others. To this end, we have taken action against one of the pumping stations that Perrier uses to steal water. On the night of Sunday, the 21st of September, the ELF penetrated the perimeter fence of an area of land used for canned hunts. This particular location, a short distance from Rodney, MI, near 13 Mile Rd and M20 is home to the pumping stations that supply the Perrier Bottling Plant in Mecosta County. Access to one of the pumping stations was gained and timed incendiary devices were placed. We will not allow the commodification of life to continue. Action must, and will, be taken, for it is our only chance. Water for life, not for profit! Welcome to Michigan. ELF (Information from the ELF Press Office) September 25, 2003 Animal Liberation Front Action An Animal Liberation Front Action at the Louisiana State University Inhalation Toxicology Research Facility did a total of $300,000 in damages.Equipment used in experiments was destroyed and red paint was splashed on the floors and walls in a direct action against animal testing and vivisection experiments being carried out by university laboratories. The communique follows: "On the morning of September 24 members of the Animal Liberation Front (A.L.F.) destroyed the Lousiana State University Inhalation Toxicology Research Facility. Headed by vivsectionist Arthur Penn, these gas chambers of suffering subject animals to daily doses of cigarette smoke and industrail pollutants causing pain, suffering, and death. It should be clear that animals do not deserve to be tortured and die in this pointless "research". 3 whole-body gas chambers, a cigarette- smoking machine, and other equipment used in the experiments were all destroyed. red paint was spashed everywhere, and computers were destroyed. Vivisection is cruel and unnecessary. the Animal Liberation Front will continue to target animal killers until the day empathy and compassion replace cruelty and exploitation. Dr.Penn your time is up!" October 03, 2003 Animal Liberation Front Action The Santa Monica home of the head of Animal Services for Los Angeles was vandalized by members of the Animal Liberation Front October 3, 2003. Jerry Greenwalt's property was splattered with red paint shortly before sunrise. The activists who struck in the early morning hours also splashed red paint on his car and scrawled the initials ALF (Animal Liberation Front) on the property. Animal rights activists have targeted Greenwalt and his department in the past for its policy of euthanizing animals. The ALF recently distributed flyers denouncing Greenwalt and his department in the Sunset Park neighborhood where Greenwalt lives with his family. (Information from http://directaction.info) October 08, 2003 Earth Liberation Front Action Construction equipment belonging to the US Forest Service in the Jemez Mountains (New Mexico) had electrical wires cut, tires cut and windows broken. Communique follows: 10/24/2003 Martinsville, IN we visited a construction site for a new Wal-Mart store. We pulled up dozens of survey stakes, spraypainted building walls and machines. Sabotage was done to over a dozen pieces of heavy machinery and vehicles by putting sand in the fuel tanks, slashing tires, and cutting engine hoses and tubes. Before leaving we broke out 20-30 construction machine windows. We are overwhelmed by the amount of shit society offers us. We look around us and see our lives displayed in neon lighting. In one city block there is a McDonalds, a Chevron, a couple of banks, and a Taco Bell. Two massive car dealerships glow in the short distance, the new SUV's proudly displayed in the front. We can even see the old Wal-Mart which apparently wasn't large enough or new enough to satiate a growing population of consumers. Everything must be new, and it must be big. Even the highway passing through town isn't big enough. And there is nothing unique about this specific location. This is life in North America. This is becoming everywhere. But what life is to be found in this? Some will have us believe that this is what should be desirable to us. Things are just large enough to keep us looking and shopping. Things are just fast enough that we never even have to leave our cars for most of our transactions, as we speed off to work. Everything is convenient and people are satisfied, and for those who might be discontent with this reality, there is plenty of televison to watch. Most people are content with this, but we are not. We know that life does not have to be one monotonous routine played out over and over again. We know that the places we live can offer us much more than Wal-Marts and McDonalds and Chevrons. We know, because at times we have experienced a break with this reality, and know that other possibilities exist. and how can things change really? For us, sabotage may not be a means to change any world but our own, as an expression of our feelings toward this society. We strike for ourselves, out of our own frustrations, and rage and despair...as a means of therapy and adventure. Because to not act, or to resign oneself to such an impoverished life of working and consuming is not good enough for us. We are not content and we intend to express this. This society offers us shit...How can we repay them? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - F R O N T L I N E - N E W S Now With 5600+ Subscribers! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Would you like to Unsubscribe or Subscribe to the Frontline-News mailing list? https://lists.resist.ca/mailman/listinfo/frontline-news - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - For general questions, feedback and requests: frontline at rocketmail.com - Frontline Information Service Administrator: frontline at rocketmail.com PGP keys available at: http://www.animalliberation.net/about/pgpkey.asc Direct Action Frontline Information Service bringing you uncensored news from around the world since 1994 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
