Hello,

i know this is more for the software workgroup, but the subscription
is a bit small on there. Mayeb there is a new ruby type person
lurking on here. So I am going to broadcast this message once on
here, and any ongoing conversation should be continued in
fg-software[1].

FROM martin in PDX

i hereby offer invitation to the larger freegeek body to find us all
an additional programmer.
(not that this was ever a closed point of entry, just unadvertised.)
the code base is ruby, on rails, with a fair helping of javascript.
i'm hoping to get the freegeek database in a releasable state so that
other locations can use it to track their volunteers, sales and
donations,
but i am unable to get that done in a timely timeframe.
vancouver is starting to try to use it,
but notably need sales tax (where oregon did not).

this entry point is, however,
tough to get through.
i'd like to offer my time tutoring prospective coders on the
technologies involved,
as well as on the domain-specific information,
but i don't even have enough time to do the work involved at a rate
greater than one ticket every week,
if that.
therefore i suggest various freegeeks sit down with their coder
friends,
install the code
and review it for use by your group.
feel free to complain loudly (to <bugs at freegeek.org>),
*after* having looked for duplicate problems
[ http://svn.freegeek.org/projects/fgdb.rb/report/1 ],
but without expectation that i will necessarily be able to address
your issues this year.
then,
if your complaints are few enough that you feel having a coder work on
your issues would be worthwhile,
have them get ahold of me (@freegeek.org) for more information,
or just start sending in patches =:)

miaou,
 - martin, freegeek.pdx code monkey
