Flying Folk Newsletter - April 2002
Howdy all! The Flying Folk Army has some upcoming gigs that we're sure you
all want to know about! Please note that the gig originally scheduled for
April 19th (Streels CD release party) has been postponed and will most
likely happen in early July instead. However, we have added a couple of
gigs to our schedule in May so here's what may and june are looking like
for us right now:
Wednesday, May 1st - MAYDAY CABARET at the WISE hall (1882 Adanac), put on
by MAYWORKS (www.tao.ca/~mayworks). We will be playing with a bunch of
other performers that evening and will issue more details as they are
available to us. Incidentally, May 1st marks the 4-year anniversary of the first real gig
that the Flying Folk Army every had (playing at a mayday demonstration in
grandview park) wow an upcoming show and a bit of random trivia! Doors
8:00, sliding scale admission.
Saturday, May 4th - SILVERTONE PUB (Commercial Drive at 11th) - The Flying
Folk Army and special guests (tba) will entertain you all night long at
the Silvertone Pub. In addition to our regular wackiness - we'll be joined
by guest bass player Travis Baker. Come on out and dance and party with
us! Show Starts at 9:00 and the Admission is $5 or by donation!
Sunday, May 26th - SEATTLE FOLKLIFE FOUNTATIN STAGE - Okay, if you have
never been to the Pacific Northwest Folklife Festival (www.nwfolklife.org)
you are seriously missing out on some awesome and totally FREE music - not
to mention that for the second year in a row, the Flying Folk Army has
been invited to play! Over the course of the weekend (May 24th-27th), over
2 million people come through the gates and over 4000 people perform on
the stages and in the fairgrounds. Admission is free and we're on at the
Fountain Stage (outdoors) at 8:50 PM - so if you're down for the festival
be sure to come by and say hello. (email us if you want to hang out during
the festival at all, we'll be there from saturday to monday)
Monday, May 27th - SEATTLE FOLKLIFE LABOUR STAGE - You saw the promo above
for Folklife - it really is very cool - and we'll be playing two spots
there this year. On May 27th we will be playing the Labour Stage show
which runs from 3:00-6:00 in the afternoon. We'll let you know more about
it as we get the details.
Friday, June 7th - Pacific Northwest Labour History Association Conference
- Location and Time to be announced
Saturday, June 8th - Ukrainian Hall - We'll be playing this Saturday night
dance with Zeelia, Vancouver's own Ukrainian songstresses. Time and
details will be announced closer to the show date. Kid-friendly show!
So that's us for the upcoming weeks, hope to see you all out at one or
more of our shows!
Love,
The Flying Folk Army
