Dear Collective Resistance San Diego organizations,
[please distribute to your organization's membership] UCSD Co-ops & Collectives Alumni has scheduled our summer 2018 gathering/meeting to be at the Che Café, Saturday afternoon, August 11, from 1 to 3 pm. We will potluck it on some snacks. Arnie Schoenberg has previously scheduled the Che Café Murals and History Committee to meet there from 3-4 and a Che Café Historical Tour there at 4-5 pm. There is a music show there later that same evening. You may want to make a day of it. But please do make it to our 1 pm meeting if you are in town. Whether or not you can make it, please help spread the word. Please ask anyone you contact to get ahold of us to get on our emailing list. We are alumni (former members) and friends, and also some current members of: The Print Co-op ● The Computer Co-op ● The Committee for World Democracy - Political Film Series ● The Lumumba-Zapata (Third) College General Assembly (1969-72) ● The child Daycare Parents' Cooperative ● The Bike Co-op ● Groundwork Books Collective ● The Food Co-op ● The Torrey Farms Co-op ● The Recycling Co-op ● The Student Cooperative/Student Cooperative Union ● The Women's Resource Center collective ● The Che Cafe Collective ● The General Store Co-op ● Alternative Visions Collective ● Voz Fronteriza ● The Indicator/Crazy Times/North Star/New Indicator Collective and other groups. We invite you to help put together our agenda for the meeting. Please bring up anything new you wish to add. In addition, we have need to talk about: Alumni Association's ideas about fund raising, using the UCSD Crowdsurfing. (see https://crowdsurf.ucsd.edu/ )Alumni Association's ideas about C&C Alumni becoming a recognized UCSD Support Group*. Paula Thomas is the current Chief of Campus Relations for the official Alumni Association. She is an UCSD alumna, class of 1987, and has suggested we become an official University Support Group. She also suggested that Che Café Collective work with the Alumni Association to do fund raising for getting the kitchen fully back up and running (It has been electric only for nearly five years due to code issues with the exhaust system for the gas range and deep fry, and due to the fight to stop the eviction and restore the lease. We intentionally left this issue out of the negotiations for the new 2017 - 2025 lease MSA to not prolong the negotiations and to maintain greater control of the collective over the decisions about the kitchen work.) The Che has decided to take the Alumni Association up on the fund raising help, which will supplement the collective's plans to apply for a grant and other efforts. The three other co-ops may be interested in this avenue for fund raising, but will likely not have meetings to discuss it during the summer. C&C Alumni may also, separately, decide to pursue this option for fund raising. Educate, Agitate, Organize!Monty Kroopkin, for C&C Alumni * There are two kinds of support groups recognized by UCSD.
