By Ben Norton The leader of a white supremacist fascist militia said Nikolas Cruz, the suspected shooter who gunned down dozens of students at a Florida high school, was a member of his fascist organization. The spokesperson for a violent neo-Nazi group that calls itself Republic of Florida, Jordan Jereb, told the Associated Press that Cruz trained with the white supremacists in Tallahassee, where they did paramilitary drills. Republic of Florida seeks to create a white ethnostate in the United State. The Real News was not able to independently verify Jereb's claims, which he repeated to the Anti-Defamation League and the Daily Beast. Local authorities said they do not know of ties to the militia but are investigating. Alt-right provocateurs have in the past intentionally spread fake news in a dishonest effort to discredit media outlets. Some critics have raised the possibility that Jereb could be making these claims to bring mass publicity to the fascist group. However, multiple classmates of the suspected shooter have also confirmed, completely separately of Jereb, that Cruz has far-right political views, hates Muslims, and has repeatedly worn Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" hats.On his Instagram account, Cruz posted photos wearing Trump's MAGA hats. He also frequently posted photos posing with guns. One photo shows the suspected shooter wearing a U.S. Army cap while holding four knives between his fingers.A classmate told the Daily Beast, "He would degrade Islamic people as terrorists and bombers. I've seen him wear a Trump hat." Another peer said of Cruz, "He would always talk about how he felt whites were a bit higher than everyone." This classmate told the Daily Beast, "He'd be like 'My people are over here industrializing the world and starting new things, while your people [meaning blacks and Latinos] are just taking up space.'"Cruz, who was heavily armed with an AR-15 rifle, allegedly opened fire on Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida on February 14. Seventeen students were killed in the mass shooting, and 19 more were injured. Nineteen-year-old Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder. In the past several months, Cruz wrote multiple YouTube comments saying he was planning a school shooting, the Los Angeles Times reported. He also said that he hoped to murder antifascists. On a right-wing YouTube video, Cruz wrote, "Im going watch them sheep fall fuck antifa i wish to kill as many as i can [sic]."President Trump, whose hats were worn by the suspected shooter, ignored Cruz's far-right politics and instead blamed the attack on mental illness. Scientific research shows people with mental illness are in fact more likely to be victims of violence, not perpetrators of it.Jordan Jereb, the fascist Republic of Florida spokesperson, blamed the attack on Jews and feminists.Republic of FloridaRepublic of Florida is an explicitly violent fascist group that plans to create a white ethnostate. The homepage of the militia's official website prominently features a quote from white supremacist David Lane, who was a member of a white supremacist terrorist group that was behind the murder of a left-wing Jewish radio host. The neo-Nazi militia says all of its members must have a "willingness to wage battle." In the Q&A section of its website, Republic of Florida responds to the question "Are you guys violent?" simply writing, "The short answer: Yes."Republic of Florida likewise calls on Floridians to unite "to throw the communists out helicopters!" Its public call for the murder of communists includes a photo of fascist Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, whose military regime murdered, tortured, and disappeared tens of thousands of leftists, with the staunch support of the United States.A military training video ROF posted online shows members marching to a song that declares, "They call me Nazi, and I'm proud of it."Sometime after the shooting, Republic of Florida removed its YouTube videos, including those depicting its training sessions.A cached version of ROF's YouTube channel, however, shows it posted multiple videos from the neo-Nazi rapper Mr. Bond. The featured video at the top of its profile was a song by titled "88 Problems" — a Nazi symbol for HH, or "Heil Hitler." This song, for which the Republic of Florida edited a special video, jokes about denying the Nazi Holocaust and declares, "We've been having kike problems for millenia son, I got 88 problems being fash ain't one."Another Mr. Bond song posted on the Republic of Florida YouTube channel is called "Fascist (She wants a fascist)." The fascist group likewise had a video titled "Charlottesville aftermath; A warning to leftists," which threatened the left after the neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in which a white supremacist terrorist murdered an anti-racist activist and injured a dozen more. The ROF Militia says all of its members must own a gun, along with other weapons. ("If you are a proud white heterosexual man, You should probably own these items anyway," the fascist group adds.)Republic of Florida says its strategy is to "to recruit suburban young whites, Then to 'Withdrawal' into majority white urban areas to create communes [sic]."It bans all of its members from participating in interracial relations and forbids homosexuality.Women in the group are given roles subservient to the men. They are not allowed to participate in combat roles because, the fascist group writes, "Women are biologically different, And thus usually are committed to tasks that are different."Republic of Florida explicitly condemns Islam, which it claims "is a serious threat to western civilization And an enemy of ROF and the Floridian people." The fascist group adds, "We are a Christian Organization that makes an exception for a few Odinists."The fascist group writes on its website that its white supremacist members "patrol the streets at night to combat crime- This mostly involves observing and reporting to local authorities."Republic of Florida also says that some of its secret fascist members have infiltrated the U.S. military and in other institutions:"The identities of the vast majority of us remain hidden; We walk among you. We are in your colleges and universities, We are in your police departments, We have infiltrated the ranks of the United States Army, Marines, And even the coast guard. We have an electrical engineer in our ranks, And an agricultural engineer, As well as welders. We are the people, And we are quietly working in the background toward our ultimate goals. We will win, And we will not be demographically displaced in the land that we love, And that rightfully belongs to us. We have payed for this land honestly, We have payed for it with blood. [sic]"
