Subject: [NLG L&EC] L&EC Endorses FLOC Boycott of WaWa, Circle K, and 7-11 stores
To: nlglec at googlegroups.com
The NLG Labor & Employment Committee has endorsed the Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC), AFL-CIO boycott of all WaWa, Circle K, and 7-11 stores until they stop carrying the VUSE smokeless tobacco product of Reynolds America, Inc., which is now controlled by British-American Tobacco. We encourage our members and local committees to sign the petition endorsing the boycott, and consider sponsoring or attending a monthly demonstration at a WaWa, Circle K, and/or 7-11 store near you. You can find more information about sponsoring a demonstration in the attached materials. Should you and/or your friends undertake to engage in any boycott activity at a WaWa, Circle K, and/or 7-11 store in your neighborhood(s), please let FLOC know by completing the online report back form. Please also drop an e-mail to nlglabor at gmail.com, describing the location and date(s) of any such monthly demonstration that you may be sponsoring. More Information about the boycott: For over ten years, the Farm Labor Organizing Committee (FLOC), a farmworker union representing tobacco farmworkers, has challenged Reynolds America, Inc. as a leader in the tobacco industry to end abuses in their supply chain by guaranteeing farmworkers freedom of association and the right to collectively negotiate better working conditions. Reynolds sets the terms of their grower contracts and is ultimately responsible for the working conditions of tobacco farmworkers in their supply chain. In 2011, Oxfam America and FLOC released a human rights report detailing widespread abuses like dilapidated housing, sub-minimum wages, work-related illnesses, and fear of retaliation for speaking out. Since then, FLOC has continued to bring examples of farmworker abuse to the attention of Reynolds; however, Reynolds’ response has been to support charity programs and issue empty standards that have had no impact on farmworkers’ lives. VUSE is a top selling e-cigarette brand made by Reynolds American Inc. and its new star product, sold at over 100,000 convenience stores across the US, accounting for roughly a third of the US e-cigarette market. Until Reynolds signs an agreement guaranteeing farmworkers freedom of association and the right to collectively bargaining, join us in boycotting the VUSE e-cigarette brand, carried by WaWA, Circle K and 7-11 stores! Thank you & as we say in FLOC, Hasta La Victoria! -- NLG Labor & Employment Committee We're on Facebook! --
