What about starting Monday May 24th. Gives us enough time to choose a reading, actually read it and then meet?

Thanks Lina for starting to pull this together. Which Monday do you want to start? Michelle

Hi Everyone,
Hope everyone is doing well and staying healthy. Hong and I were talking today about getting the meetings going again. We were hoping to suggest Monday after work (5:30ish) as a new meeting time, since the next few weekends seem pretty crazy already. And then maybe when we decide a time/date to meet we can suggest the reading and get this going again :)
Let us know what you think.
Best,
Lina Shalabi

Subject: [Fight Gentrification!] Meeting last Saturday
Hi all: A little recap from last Saturday's get together: three of us got together.
1. None of us did the reading.
2. We watched the Price of Renewal and discussed some of the issues that came up from watching the movie: the issue of all of the businesses in the Urban Village being corporate businesses, the pushing out of the local businesses that were there before the Urban Village was built, the relationship of Price to William Jones, Vien Dong grocery store and Murphy's market as very large family businesses in City Heights, comparisons of Urban Village and Jacob's Center redevelopment, and many other issues that came up in relationship to business, residents, corporate power...
3. The movie also brought up some historical instances that we want to learn more about, such as the crime economic summit that happened in City Heights, William Jones' business, as well as Proposition 13.
Here is a Wikipedia site that I just found for Proposition 13:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_13_(1978)
We did not decide on when we would meet again or where. Anybody else who wants to add something that we talked about or propose a time to meet, can send it out to the list. --Michelle
