Our second care collective meeting will be this SATURDAY, OCTOBER 4TH at
2PM, at my (Sydney's) house (2949 KITCHENER ST)!! There will be CRAFTING!!!
And SNACKS!!! This meeting will focus on creating a sustainable system that
works for lots of people for care. We want to create a physical document
that we can keep at Sailor's, so people can look at a list of tasks, see
what's been done and when, and make note of what needs doing/record their
participation. This will be based on the google doc that's been circulating
and Sailor's verbal input, so if you can't make it please contribute to the
google doc! I will provide poster board and crayons, and you should bring
whatever unscented craft supplies you have lying around so we can jazz it
up.
It would be really appreciated if all involved/all who want to be involved
would make an effort to attend, since one of the things we've encountered
is confusion about who's doing what when, etc, and it'd be great to get a
tangible sense of everyone's participation.
Snacks and tea will be provided.
PLEASE AVOID USING SCENTED PRODUCTS ON YOUR PERSON 24 HOURS BEFORE
ATTENDING--including essential oils, nail polish, hair dye, clothes freshly
laundered with scented detergent, anything smelly, really.
Accessibility and transportation info below, but feel free to contact
Sydney directly with any questions/concerns--including if this space just
doesn't work for you and we'd be happy to figure out something else! You
can email at srneuman at gmail.com, or call/text at 604.812.1304.

Transportation:
The address is 2949 KITCHENER ST., located half a block east of Renfrew and
a few blocks north of 1st Ave. It is the laneway house around back. You can
access it either through the gate to the left of the main house, or through
the alley half a block north of Kitchener St. If coming from the
front--it's the house in the backyard. Can't miss it. From the back, it is
the only laneway house on that block, so it'll be pretty easy to spot given
it's second floor balcony. It's a grey stone building, and there's a little
garden on the side that you walk through to get to our door.
The nearest bus route is the 16 Arbutus/29th Avenue Station. If taking the
bus east/south bound, which you can catch all along Granville downtown or
Hastings street, get off at the "Kitchener St" stop, cross Renfrew st., and
follow directions as listed above. If taking the bus north/west bound
(which you can catch at either the 29th Avenue or Renfrew skytrain
stations), get off at Grant St., continue walking north about one block,
then turn right onto Kitchener and follow directions as above. You can also
take the 14 or 135 to Hastings and Renfrew and walk the rest of the way,
which takes about 15-20 min, or walk from Commercial Drive, which is a bit
longer.
If driving, it's best to use street parking on Kitchener.
Accessibility info:
The house is NOT wheelchair accessible, sadly. The entrances involve a
combination of stone tiles and grass, are quite narrow, there is a flight
of stairs inside up to the 2nd floor living space, and the bathroom has no
space/grab bars. If this is at all an issue for you, please let me know, as
I'd be totally happy to look into finding another space. There is a railing
for the stairs. There are 14 of them in total.
There is an indoor/outdoor cat, lots of plants (nothing super pollen-ey--we
have allergies), some dust and cat hair, but we try to stay on top of it
and it's quite clean in here. I smoke cigarettes, but only outside on the
balcony with the door and window closed.
There are some scented products around, none of which will be used within
24 hours of the event, and all of which will be stored under the bathroom
sink--which is downstairs and relatively contained away from the living
space. All cleaning is done with baking soda and vinegar, we use unscented
laundry detergent, no scented candles or air fresheners of any kind,
unscented cat litter. There is unscented soap by the kitchen and bathroom
sink.
Any other accessibility concerns, requests for more detailed info, advice
for what we can do to make things more accessible, and notes that this
space totally doesn't work for you and we need to figure something else out
are all welcome and e
