Mayor Campbell and Councillors:
Last week I was very pleased and relieved when I heard that the proposed increases for bus fares did not go through. I really appreciated hearing Councillor Raymond Louie on Channel MTV when he gave such clear and humane reasons why the bus increase should not be accepted. Those reasons still stand - so what happened?
Even understanding the political and economic bind the City of Vancouver has been placed in due to Olympic 2010 and the RAV line by the small special interest groups who gain from it and the Provincial and Federal Governments, I am disappointed and disillusioned that this issue has returned to the table. The people who have the biggest vested interest in making large sums of money from the Olympics and want the RAV are the ones who should literally put their own money on the line, not mine. I need my money to go for food; I have a disability pass but 7-year old son doesn't and every quarter counts for us.
If this fare increase goes though on Friday, I am one who will not be bothering to vote for wards on Saturday, because it will be obvious the ward system makes no difference as to who and what runs Vancouver. Enough is enough.
I will also be forwarding this to others.
Sincerely,
Lenore S. Clemens
