Vancouver’s Anti-war Coalition refuses to wait for war to start, calls for
series of mass mobilizations

Over the next few days, the Lower Mainland’s antiwar coalition,
Stopwar.ca, is calling a series of demonstrations against the impending
war on Iraq. The first will take place on Wednesday March 19 at 7:30 PM,
starting at the Vancouver Art Gallery (Robson St. side) and marching to
the US consulate at 8 PM.

The Stopwar.ca coalition is also calling for rallies on Thursday and
Friday. Both of these rallies will start at 5 PM at the Vancouver Art
Gallery (Robson St. side). All of these rallies are to build towards a
mass mobilization at the Art Gallery on Saturday at 12 Noon.

“The US plan to start the war on Iraq, with a Baghdad Blitzkrieg of some
3,000 cruise missiles and tactical missiles for 48 hours in their 'Shock
and Awe' campaign, will kill tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis," said
Derrick O’Keefe, a member of Stopwar.ca’s coordinating committee. “We are
not going to wait for the US administration to fire the first shots. We
are joining the many cities around the world who have been calling for
several actions in the next few days against this war on Iraq.”

The Stopwar.ca Coalition is also holding an ‘All-Region Anti-war Meeting’
to coordinate the expansion of Stopwar.ca throughout the Lower Mainland to
include all regions and communities. The meeting is on Sunday March 23rd,
at 7 PM at Queen’s United Church in New Westminster (529 Queen Street,
Queen and 6th). In addition, the 24-hour peace vigil at the US consulate
continues.
