From rstewart at imag.net Thu Apr 3 15:17:30 2003 From: rstewart at imag.net (Ron Stewart) Date: Thu, 3 Apr 2003 15:17:30 -0800 Subject: [Busriders-van] EEFC AGM Message-ID: <012501c2fa38$99275700$cfdc71d8@oemcomputer> I'm passing along the East End Food Co-op AGM notice in the hope of finding at least 2 new recruits for the BoD at our AGM this April 14, WISE Hall, 7:15 PM What's different about EEFC is that it employs people (at present 15) in a co-op enterprise in the grocery industry. Not only do we provide as much full time employment and fair wages (through the CAW union contract), we seek other extensions of co-op principles through the Board of Directors and our community contacts. Finding candidates to support this direction is the challenge, since by-the-book business weeds out initiatives not directly tied to the profits. This BoD best suits people who are looking for a range of experience. We do pay directors ($25 per meeting) for attendance. One BoD meeting a month (and if we maintain our sensible approach) takes about 2.5 hours. Term is two years. This year, we renegotiate the staff collective agreement. Committees might draw more interest, because the commitment is flexible and the material is more adventurous : GMO, finances and internet. Visit our website under wrappers : www.east-end-food.coop. If you know anyone, either pass along this notice or my name and number. If you can, send back any suggestions. Also, we have our meetings chaired by Don King, a third party facilitator with great capabilities. There will be some speakers, music and workshops at 2:00 pm on the following topics: 1.War and Occupation in the Middle East 2.War in Latin America 3.Women and War in Iraq 4.Building the Anti-War Movement 5.Childrens' workshop Activities will focus in part on the environmental costs of war with special concern to the present criminal US occupation of Iraq. If you feel that you have some information to share please feel free to contact StopWar.ca. More than half of the Palestinian population (53.3%) is under 18 years old. Estimated population by the end of 1998 indicates that, the number of children under 18 years old amounted to 1.546 million, 49% of which are females. The total Middle Eastern population under the age of 18 is estimated at 79%. In 2025 it is estimated that more than 50% of the world population will be under the age of 25. It is for this reason that we must stand together in educating our youth so that the future generations of the world can share common interests which exclude violence and war.
