PICKET TO STOP THE FARE INCREASE - Thursday, May 31, 7:00pm
at the Plaza 500 Hotel (500 West 12th Avenue)
It's that time again - when TransLink yet again threatens to increase
transit fares. TransLink has threatened to increase fares in 2008 by at
least 6%. Meanwhile, bus riders are trying to make ends meet on a $6
minimum wage and stagnating welfare rates, in the most expensive region in
Canada. This is a direct attack on the health of poor and working class
communities.
We are asking our members and all transit dependent people to come out to
TransLink's 'public consultation' on the 2008 Transportation Plan. Join the
picket, make your voice heard, and speak out against the proposed fare
increase. TransLink needs to hear our opposition to the proposed fare
increase and our resistance the privatization of our public transit system.
We need to expose the real effects of a fare increase on bus riders!
MONTHLY PUBLIC MEETING - SATURDAY, JUNE 2, 11:00am
at the Organizing Centre for Social and Economic Justice (672 East Broadway,
at Fraser)
Come out to our monthly public meeting to learn more about the proposed fare
increase and the fight fore 500 more buses by 2010.
If you are fed up with TransLink's right wing, band-aid remedies to the
transit crisis in the GVRD and would like to demonstrate your opposition to
the plan to increase transit fares, join the Bus Riders Union, and get
involved in the fight for transit justice. Snacks, coffee and tea will be
served. This is a child-friendly meeting.
