Environmental Justice for all:
A public forum on privatization, global warming & public transportation

TODAY, Wednesday, May 23, 7:00pm
@ Mount Pleasant Neighborhood House (800 East Broadway)

The Bus Riders Union (BRU) is hosting a public forum to shed light on
the recent 'green agenda' announced by the Federal Government and
Provincial government, which only demonstrate their commitment to
neoliberal policies that will not address urgent issues of global
warming and public health.

Our government also does not acknowledge who is being most affected by
global warming. Their commitment to privatization, deregulation and
liberalization contributes to environmental injustice that so many
First Nations people and oppressed nationality communities face
everyday.

Global warming is a humanitarian crisis that has caused massive death
& destruction for people of colour and Indigenous peoples around the
world. Many of us remember the heartbreaking images of the 2004 Asian
Tsunami and Hurricane Katrina. We also have seen the ongoing health
impacts of air pollution on poor communities in Vancouver and around
the world.

The Provincial Liberal government has responded to the global warming
crisis with an empty commitment to a 'green agenda' yet at the same
time forcing privatization of public transit, driving the system into
the ground and forcing people into cars. This forum is an opportunity
to talk together about the root cause of global warming, the health
crisis created by global warming, and what we can do in Vancouver to
fight for environmental justice at home and abroad.

We, as organizers and community members, need to challenge our
governments to commit to real systemic change to address the crisis of
global warming. Please join Bus Riders Union organizers and guest
speakers for this important discussion.

Forum speakers include:
Eric Doherty (Society Promoting Environmental Conservation)
Karen Campbell (the Pembina Institute)
Organizers from the Alliance for Peoples Health
Organizers from the Bus Riders Union

Snacks and coffee will be served. This is a free event. Please
contact the BRU office for more information at 604-215-2775 or email
us at busridersunion at gmail.com
