6 reasons to stop the fare increase



1.      For social and economic justice for our communities! Because fare
increases are 'Robin Hood in reverse' as TransLink takes hundreds of
millions of dollars out of low income communities and then puts into the
pockets of rich share holders through privatized mega projects like the
Canada Line.



2.      For the environment! Because an affordable, reliable, accessible and
fully public transit system are absolutely essential if we are going to
actually address the growing environmental disaster associated with climate
change.



3.      For public health!  Because clean air and access to transportation
are major determinants of health.  Without a decent, affordable public
transit we can't achieve health for our communities.



4.      To stop privatization! Because increased fares are a form of
privatization, shifting the costs of public transit onto individual bus
riders, many of whom can ill afford to pay it, and away from principle that
public services should be funded through progressive forms of taxation.



5.      Because we don't want to pay for Transit Cops who racially profile
youth of colour and aboriginal youth, and increase the economic hardship our
communities already face by handing out $173 tickets.



6.      Because poor people have a right to live in Vancouver!  With
skyrocketing housing prices and bus fares, low-income people are being
pushed out of their homes, out of the city and even onto the streets.
