Join the Bus Riders Union in planning our next steps to
Stop The Fare Increase

Bus Riders Union Monthly Meeting

 On June 27th, the presence of Bus Riders Union's members and supporters
at last week's TransLink's meeting was stronger than the orange t-shirts we
wore that day.  Over 40 BRU members and allies who took time off work and
school to attend a 9 AM Wednesday morning meeting. 28 bus riders and allies
gave frank, heartfelt and persuasive testimonials about the real impacts of
this fare increase on our communities.
Despite 2 hours of strong presentations from bus riders, TransLink directors
voted 11-1 to go ahead with the fare increase.  This devastating decision,
however, did not get passed quietly and without strong opposition from bus
riders.

THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER!!!

Our strength as an organization is fueled by the hundreds of bus riders that
we talk to every week and the creativity and participation of active members
in fighting for our rights to an affordable, reliable and accessible public
transit system.  Now, with TransLink's decision to go ahead with the fare
increase, and after 2 busy months of organizing, educating and mobilizing,
it is important for bus riders to re-group to share our share our feelings,
thoughts, lessons and successes from the last few months of organizing work
and figure out: where do we go from here? and how do we do it? because the
fight isn't over!

Come out and participate in this meeting as we collectivize our concerns,
learn from what movements internationally have done historically to overcome
setbacks, and develop a strategy and tactics for the next phase of our Stop
the Fare Increase campaign.

*Are your kids, family and friends going to be affected as well? Organize
them to come to the meeting!*

Our meetings are child friendly.  There will be snacks and coffee and tea.
Bus tickets are also available for people who need it.
