Hello Members and Supporters,

The Bus Riders Union ‘On the Bus’ organizing crew is excited to let you
know of our upcoming activities in January 2005:

Friday January 14th – FARE STRIKE!
Don’t pay for racism!
Don’t pay for privatization!
Don’t pay for corporate profits!
The BRU is organizing a one-day Fare Strike to unite bus riders and take
economic action against TransLink in protest of their 3rd fare increase in
5 years! Become a BRU ‘organizer for the day’! Join us for a 3-hour
training on Sunday January 9th (2:00 – 5:00 pm), then sign-up for a
4-hour shift of organizing bus riders on Friday January 14th (8 am – 12
pm OR 2 pm - 6 pm). All organizers will be in a group, will receive a BRU
t-shirt, and a free lunch will be served from 12 – 2 pm. This is a great
opportunity to participate in collective action and meet the BRU ‘on the
bus’ organizers. If you would like to join us, please phone or e-mail the
BRU at the phone/address below.

Saturday January 8th – Fare Strike Public Meeting
6:00 – 8:00 pm at the Vancouver Public Library Central Branch (350 W.
Georgia St). Everyone is welcome at this public meeting to get involved
in the Fare Strike. Free snacks – children welcome

Monday January 10th – BRU: The Movie!
7:00 pm at Simon Fraser University Harbour Centre (515 W. Hastings St.)
Come out and see a great movie about the BRU in Los Angeles! A discussion
about the Vancouver fare strike will follow the movie showing.
Entrance by donation

Friday January 14th – Rally!
Following the day-long Fare Strike meet at the intersection of Broadway
and Commercial at 6:00 pm to show your anger and protest the unjust fare
increase!

Another way to contribute to the success of BRU activities is to make a
donation – no amount is too small! Every dollar helps in our struggle to
defend and expand public services, to end transit racism, to put women at
the centre of public transit, and to promote public health and
environmental justice over corporate profits.
