What: Important TransLink Meeting

Where: Croatian Cultural Centre

When: December 1, 10 am

Why: Oppose transit racism and let your opposition to the RAV line be known!

On December 1st, at a 10 am meeting at the Croatian Cultural Centre, TransLink directors will vote on whether to move to the final "Best and Final Offer" stage of the Richmond Airport Vancouver (RAV) Line. The Bus Riders Union will be there to once again make our opposition to the line known, and to explain the ramifications of the RAV line on the lives of transit dependent people in the region.

This RAV line will serve corporate interests at the expense of transit dependent people. The line will be a privatized service that will divest over one billion dollars from the public purse into corporate pockets. If the RAV line moves forward, it will be the largest Public Private Partnership (PPP) in Canadian history.

TransLink has suggested that they will cut numerous bus routes if the RAV line is built. The board also moving forward with a fare increase that will fund the RAV line. These are clear and direct attacks on transit dependent people, who are disproportionately people of colour and Aboriginal people, and majority women. This RAV line and this fare increase are examples of transit racism and affect all bus riders, and we will fight back!

It is very important to oppose the RAV line. It will also be equally important to mobilize for the December 8 TransLink meeting, where TransLink directors will be voting on whether to move forward with a proposed fare increase - the third increase in five years. We encourage all bus riders and progressive allies to sign up to speak at the meeting.

Please call the Bus Riders Union at 215-2775 to find out more information.
