La présente est pour vous inviter à vous joindre au contingent "Boycottons
l'apartheid", en appui à la manifestation du 10 mai prochain, organisée
par la Coalition pour la justice et la paix en Palestine (CJPP) à
l'occasion du 60ème anniversaire de la nakba (catastrophe).

La création de l'État d'Israël sur des terres arabes en 1948 a été une
catastrophe d'énormes proportions. Cette catastrophe a donné lieu à la
naissance d'un projet colonial de destruction et de dépossession qui s'est
poursuivi sans relâche jusqu'à aujourd'hui. Cette catastrophe, c'est la
destruction de villages complets et l'exil forcé de quelques 750 000
arabes palestiniens.

Soixante ans plus tard, les réfugié-es palestinien-nes vivent toujours
dans des camps de réfugiés ou bien sont éparpillés un peu partout à
travers le monde ; parce qu'ils ne sont pas juifs, on leur a interdit de
rentrer chez eux. Pour leur part, les Palestiniennes et les Palestiniens
vivant sous l'occupation en Cisjordanie voient s'opérer devant eux la
colonisation et la ghettoïsation continue de leurs terres. Et c'est sans
parler de la population de Gaza qui subit à tous les jours un état de
siège brutal.

Établi, appuyé et peuplé par l'Europe et l'Amérique du Nord, l'État
israélien constitue depuis ses débuts un poste de garde de l'impérialisme
occidental. L'offensive violente contre le Liban à l'été 2006 - qui a
chambardé la fragile stabilité du pays - n'est qu'une des manifestations
les plus flagrantes d'un projet néo-colonial mené en partie à travers
l'État d'Israël.

En juillet 2005, plus de 170 organisations issues de la société civile
palestinienne ont demandé à leurs sympathisant-es à travers le monde
d'entamer une campagne de boycott de l'État israélien, et ce jusqu'à ce
qu'il se conforme aux préceptes du droit international en :

1. Mettant fin à son occupation et à sa colonisation de tous les terres
Arabes et en démantelant le Mur;

2. Reconnaissant les droits fondamentaux des citoyens arabo-palestiniens
d'Israël à une égalité absolue; et

3. Respectant, protégeant et favorisant les droits des réfugiés
palestiniens à revenir dans leurs maisons et propriétés tel que stipulé
dans la résolution 194 de l'ONU

Depuis la publication de cet appel, des gens partout dans le monde
travaillent pour bâtir une campagne internationale de boycott, de
désinvestissement et de sanctions contre l'apartheid israélien. À Montréal
et à travers l'Amérique du Nord, des mouvements étudiants, des réseaux
d'artistes et des syndicats se joignent à la campagne de boycott.

Le 10 mai prochain, Tadamon! appelle tous les allié-e-s à se joindre à
elle pour former un contingent "Boycottons l'apartheid", en appui à la
manifestation de la CJPP. Le but de ce contingent est d'envoyer un message
clair comme quoi les Montréalaises et les Montréalais appuient la campagne
de boycott contre l'apartheid israélien et ne toléreront pas la complicité
du Canada avec la violence et l'oppression de l'État d'Israël.

This is an open call to all allies to join a 'Boycott Apartheid Bloc' to
support the march on Saturday, 10 May, organized by the Coalition for
Justice and Peace in Palestine (CJPP), marking the 60th year of the Nakba.

The creation of the state of Israel in Arab lands in 1948 was a
catastrophe of enormous proportions, unleashing a colonial project of
destruction and displacement which continues unabated to this day. It
involved the levelling of villages, and the displacement of some 750 000
Palestinians from their homeland.

Sixty years later, Palestinian refugees remain in refugee camps and
scattered around the globe, forbidden to return because they are non-Jews,
while Palestinians living under the control of the Israeli state face
systematic and institutionalized discrimination under an apartheid-like
system. Palestinians under occupation in the West Bank witness the ongoing
colonization and the ghetto-ization of their land, and those living in
Gaza live under a brutal siege.

Settled and supported by Europe and North America, Israel has from its
beginning served as a regional foothold for western imperialism. Israel's
violent attack on Lebanon in the summer of 2006, wrecking havoc on the
delicate internal stability of that country, is only one of the more
blatant manifestations of a neo-colonial regional agenda played out in
part through Israel.

In July 2005, 170 Palestinian civil society organizations called on allies
around the world to boycott Israel until it complies with international
pressure by:

1. Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and
dismantling the Wall;

2. Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of
Israel to full equality; and

3. Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees
to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution
194.

Since then, people around the world have been building an international
campaign of boycott, divestment and sanctions against Israeli apartheid.
In Montreal and across North America, student movements, networks of
artists, and labor movements are joining the boycott.

On 10 May, Tadamon is calling on all allies to join a "Boycott Apartheid
Bloc" in support of the CJPP march. The contingent will give a clear
message that Montrealers back the international campaign to boycott
Israeli apartheid and will no longer tolerate Canadian support for the
violent and oppressive state of Israel.
