Le réseau Solidarité sans frontières organise une marche « UN STATUT POUR
TOUS ET TOUTES » (plus d'information :

marche aura lieu à la 122e semaine du refuge d'Abdelkader à l'église.

Point de rassemblement : angle des avenues Victoria et Van Horne (métro
Plamondon, sortie Van Horne).

Un des prétextes servis par l'Immigration pour refuser son statut à
Abdelkader est qu'il n'avait pas d'emploi rémunéré. Son travail bénévole, de
même que ses nombreuses contributions à la communauté, n'ont pas été prises
en considération par Immigration Canada. Puisqu'il n'avait pas de statut,
Abdelkader n'était pas non plus admissible aux programmes d'accès à l'emploi
pour les personnes handicapées. Abdelkader était pris dans un cercle
vicieux. Pas de statut : pas d'emploi. Pas d'emploi : pas de statut.

Comme nombre de personnes faisant face à la menace de déportation,
AbdelKader a senti qu'il n'avait d'autre choix que de défier l'ordre de
déportation d'Immigration Canada. Mais, étant donné sa cécité, il n'avait
pas l'option de vivre dans la clandestinité. Au lieu de ça, il a posé un
geste courageux et est devenu un symbole de la lutte que mènent les
travailleurs et travailleuses (im)migrant-e-s pour obtenir justice et
retrouver leur dignité.

**Samedi, joignez-vous à nous et marcher en appui de la justice et la
dignité pour Abdelkader et de toutes les autres personnes sans-statut qui
luttent contre l'emprisonnement, soi dans une église, un centre de
déportation ou une situation d'exploitation sous la menace constante de la
déportation.**

KADER BLOC IN THE SOLIDARITY ACROSS BORDERS' STATUS FOR ALL MARCH

Solidarity Across Borders is organizing a "Status for All!" march as part of
an National Day of Action for immigrant rights (for details, see
http://solidarityacrossborders.blogspot.com/2008/04/status-for-all.html).
The march takes place 122 weeks after Abdelkader Belaouni took sanctuary in
the face of deportation. We are inviting you to join us under the banner
"Status for Kader"!

Like many others, Kader faced deportation from Canada after being denied
refugee status because of discriminatory immigration policies: one of the
major reasons Kader was refused status was because, despite being an active
volunteer within his community, he was unable to find paid work. As someone
who is blind, he faced many barriers to employment and as someone without
status in Canada, he couldn't access programs that help remove such barriers
to employment. No work=no status and no status = no work.  By giving Kader a
deportation order, the Canadian govenment sent a clear message that it only
values people according to their market value.

On January 2006, Kader decided to defy the deportation order. Like many
facing deportation from Canada, Kader felt that he had no other choice. As
someone who is blind, Kader did not have the option of  living underground.
Instead, he took the courageous step of going public, becoming a symbol of
the struggle of migrant workers for dignity and justice.

**On Sunday, meet us under the "Status for Kader" banner! Pick up a placard,
join the Kader Block and march for justice and dignity for Kader as well as
all non-status people who face multiple barriers to dignity and security;
who are forced to live imprisoned, whether in sanctuary, in detention
centres, or in deeply oppressive and exploitative conditions under constant
threat of deportation. **
