SANCTUARY STRUGGLES
a special broadcast on CKUT's PrisonRadio!

This Friday June 1st at 11am, Prison Radio will air a special on struggles
in sanctuary across North America. We will speak with Bronwen from the
Committee to Support Abdelkader Belaouni about sanctuary cases across
North America. We will also be speaking with Abdelkader Belaouni about
his case and the over
500 days he has spent in sanctuary in St Gabriels church in the community
of Point Saint Charles.

The Canadian immigration system and criminal justice system are strongly
interconnected; from the imprisonment of migrants in immigration detention
centres to the racial profiling witnessed in our communities, to the
criminalization of racialized identities, sytems of immigration and
incarceration in Canada share the same exclusionary and racist agenda.

Though not in prison, Kader has spent close to the past year and a half in
isolation and uncertainty. In documenting his struggle, and other
sanctuary struggles across North America, PrisonRadio seeks to explore the
connections between sanctuary and prison, and expose the racist, classist
and ableist structures at their root.
