Troupes canadiennes, hors d'Afghanistan !
NON au partenariat militaire Canada-États-Unis !

On nous dit que le Canada est en Afghanistan pour contribuer à y instaurer stabilité et sécurité, mais, après cinq ans, c'est l'insécurité de la population qui grandit et le nombre de victimes civiles qui s'accroît.



On nous dit que le Canada est en Afghanistan pour étendre l'autorité d'un gouvernement central élu démocratiquement, mais cette élection a été marquée par l'intimidation systématique et le Parlement afghan est en majorité composé de représentants des seigneurs de guerre et des barons de l'opium.



On nous dit que le Canada est en Afghanistan pour contribuer à l'avènement d'une société respectueuse des droits de la personne, mais l'armée étasunienne et ses collaborateurs locaux y pratiquent systématiquement la torture et ce sont 'nos' alliés afghans, les seigneurs de guerre, qui sont responsables du plus grand nombre de violations des droits de la personne, y compris le maintien des femmes dans un statut subordonné.



On nous dit que le Canada est en Afghanistan pour participer à sa reconstruction et aider à son développement, mais il ne peut y avoir ni reconstruction ni développement qui vaillent quand c'est la guerre qui est à l'ordre du jour et que les dépenses militaires sont dix fois plus élevées que cette soi-disant « aide ».



Nous ne sommes pas dupes.  En Afghanistan, ce dont il s'agit c'est de guerre et d'occupation militaire, de contrôle et de destruction. Et cette guerre est menée d'abord et avant tout en fonction des intérêts économiques et stratégiques des États-Unis et de leurs alliés, dont le Canada, des intérêts qui n'ont rien à voir avec le bien-être de la population afghane.



Notre premier devoir de solidarité envers le peuple afghan est de cesser d'être associé à cette logique de guerre qui domine l'intervention étrangère en Afghanistan.  Nous demandons donc le retrait immédiat des troupes canadiennes de l'Afghanistan.



Face aux besoins extrêmes de la société afghane, mais aussi face à l'insécurité et à la destruction dont le Canada est en partie responsable, nous avons également un devoir d'assistance et de réparation. Mais ce devoir doit absolument se concrétiser en dehors de la logique actuelle, dans un respect réel du droit à l'autodétermination du peuple afghan et en réponse aux demandes qu'il exprimera lui-même.

Canadian Troops, Out of Afghanistan!

No to Canada's military partnership with the USA!

We are told that Canada is in Afghanistan to contribute to the establishment of stability and security, but after five years, the security situation in Afghanistan is crumbling and the number of civilian casualties is mounting.

We are told that Canada is in Afghanistan to extend the authority of a democratically elected central government, but the election was marred by pervasive intimidation and the Afghan Parliament is predominantly made up of the representatives of war lords and opium barons.

We are told that Canada is in Afghanistan to help lay the basis for a society that respects human rights, but the US Army and its local allies practice systematic torture and it is"our" Afghan allies, the drug lords, who are responsible for the largest number of human rights abuses, including the continued subjugation of women.

We are told that Canada is in Afghanistan to help its reconstruction  and assist its development, but there can't realistically be any worthwhile reconstruction or development when war is number one on the agenda and when military expenditures are ten times greater than the so-called "aid".

We aren't fooled.  In Afghanistan, what's taking place is war and military occupation, control and destruction.  This war is being fought first and foremost along the strategic and economic interests of the United States and its allies, including Canada, interests that have nothing to do with the well-being of the Afghan population.

Our first responsibility towards the Afghan people is to cease all association with the logic of war that dominates the foreign intervention in Afghanistan.  We therefore call for the immediate withdrawal of Canadian troops from Afghanistan.

Given the urgent and grave needs of Afghan society, but also in light of the insecurity and destruction for which Canada is in part responsible, we also have a responsibility to offer assistance and reparations.  However, this responsibility must be fulfilled outside of the current logic of war, with a genuine respect for the self-determination of the Afghan people and in response to the demands that they will express themselves.
