"Beats for Boots" is to raise money for an initial order of boots in a STAC
project with the First of January Zapatista boot cooperative in Oventic,
Chiapas. The money from the sales of the first order of boots can be used to
buy the next order, and in this way the project will be self-sustaining once
it is started. This gives the cooperative a market in Montreal, and a source
of revenue to help sustain the autonomy of their community.
Everyone is invited to come listen and dance to some wonderful music, and
buy some awesome art for a great cause!

Hosted by * Students Taking Action in Chiapas* (STAC)
STAC is a working group of QPIRG McGill (the Quebec Public Interest Research
Group)
The Zapatistas are an organization of indigenous communities in the southern
Mexican state of Chiapas. In 1994 they rebelled against their government and
have since established self-governance of their communities. Along with this
political autonomy, they are attempting to sustain themselves without
government support. International solidarity groups such as STAC have worked
with them to achieve this.
