*Meeting Notes12/29/2014 6pm @ The LoveShackFacilitated by: Mama Nia,
Omisade, Mya Hunter*

Healing

•           Sustained spiritual grounding (breathing)

•           Love and Respect

•           The right to a shared existence

•           Healing from trauma imposed by Police and or community

•           Healing individuals, families, communities, nations

•           What do I do with my anger?

•           How can this movement be sustainable and avoid burn-out

•           Freedom of speech

•           Healing

Black Leadership

•           Black Leadership within the larger movement

•           Why are we having a P.O.C (People of Color) meeting during a
time of Black crisis?

•           Theoretical foundation for Black autonomy

•           How can I as a non-Black P.O.C help support this as a Black led
movement

•           How can I support Black folks leadership as a non-Black person
of color?

•           Black control of resources

•           Want to begin seeing a goal being defined locally for the
#BlackLivesMatter movement

Transform the System

•           Dismantling White Supremacy and getting free from White Culture

•           Queer liberation/transformation in this work

•           ?

Self Determination

•           Self Determination - Black business, food, education- not
reliant on outside world

•           What does our economy look like? How do we structure our own
economy?

•           Stopping gentrification

•           access to equal sustainability

Economic Scarcity & Financial Support

•           Money/economic scarcity - I worry about being homeless again
and the trauma that causes

•           How to ... self-supportive financial base to support our own
programs

•           Right now I need a financial intervention

Police Violence

•           Finding a real community alternative to calling 911/cops

•           The urgency for me is to keep as many of us safe in the streets
as possible and to stop feeding money into the system w/ fees

•           As a new mom, I feel unsafe at rallies b/c of the fucking
police

•           Direct action targeting the DPD

•           Policing in Black communities

•           Effecting systemic change in Police state in *Durham *

•           Police as community predators

Youth and Family

•           (Re)creating family (relationships based on trust, love, truth,
justice)

•           Reducing isolation for people in Durham, especially youth who
have become entrapped by the criminal justice system

•           Challenging the inadequate education of the youth

•           How do we support families of color with children?

•           Creating Safe spaces and communities for children of color,
especially children from poorer communities

•           How, what do we teach our children? How do we prepare them for
the future?

•           Youth Focus

Strategy & Dynamics

•           Being militant against the cops

•           Building solidarity w/ various groups in Durham despite
political differences

•           Effective and direct artistic action in response to Govt.
injustices

•           Intentionally Black lead actions and spaces

•           I feel the need for a youth-led and youth centered space, and
for an end of to co-op-tation and adultism in #BlackLivesMatter Durham
space

•           What other movement techniques are folks interested in
participating in other than rallying and getting arrested

•           Solidarity- communicating, collaborating, creating, SQUAD DEEP

•           Building creative community that is tied to the movement -
infusing art into protest

•           Strategy

•           United agenda around a solution to the Black on Black crimes
issues

•           Strategies for direct actions around police entities?

•           I feel a need for basic principles or group agreements shared
among groups, organizing around #BlackLivesMatter in Durham - Including
stuff like not snitching or talking shit about each other to the media

•           I am concerned about *solidarity* within the movement -
specifically between: Anti-police v. Anti-brutality, How can White and
Non-Black P.O.C be allies? Reform v. Revolution, Are we on the same page?

•           Maintaining/ building energy for a movement

•           Surveillance of freedom fighters!

•           How do we mobilize larger community of color i.e. non-activists

•           Strategies for Future

•           Not feeling welcomed in Durham as a young, black person trying
to organize w/ other young, black people

•           How to mobilize folks who want to be mobilized - lots of people
want to "do something" but don't know what to do, Specifically students and
younger generation

•           Encouraging/participating in social activism within faith
communities

•           Please our communities to learn strategies how to defend
ourselves when shit goes down and people are being beat up in the streets
