Yea that sounds very convoluted and like you said, you aren't a judge or a
cop nor should you have to play one. We do NOT have an explicit
anti-violence policy, really, but our safer spaces policy pretty clearly
says that we talk before we kick people out and that it takes repeated,
malicious behaviour to get kicked out. We specifically chose not to have
language in the policy around kicking out abusers because of stuff like
this and also because obviously we cannot understand the intricacies of
every interpersonal relationship of everyone in the space.
But yea, it sounds like you handled it well, Quinn, and I'm sure it was
stressful. You did the right thing, though, by talking to both parties,
attempting to get a handle on the situation, asking them to leave etc. I
wouldn't have done anything differently. It's shitty that the person felt
like it wasn't handled well but you can't please everyone, to be frank. Did
they have any solutions as to how they would have preferred things to go
down? also feel free to forward them a link to the safer spaces policy if
they want clarity on our position
