I was gona suggest Eris as the staff person as well, since she's on part time at OCB right now? makes sense to me. And/or any other collective member that would have an interest in being a staff person, if anyone else has interest in that position. I think it'd be better to hire someone from the collective! since we all work our butts off itd be cool if at least one of us is getting paid! :)
I am ok with any of the above grants, though I think we should avoid taking money from other DTES agencies, so maybe the city/province/canada/bc arts council stuff would be more priority to me as opposed to DTES cultural infrastructure grants.
thanks again anju for your work on this, it's very stoking.

I would totally be willing to be the "staff member" or whatever if it means we get $$$.

Also can someone make events for March's film nights:
Wed March 11th - FILM NIGHT: Kids
Wed March 25th - FILM NIGHT: Time is Illmatic

Hey all, I haven't managed to add Eris to the list yet so please add her when you email about space stuff for now.
I want to know everyone's stand on grants. Talking to folks, it seems we are not agreed on whether we should apply for grants or not. Since writing grants is a shit load of work, i'll need to know where we stand on what types of grants we want to apply for and what you support me in writing for.
It's not a good use of my time to keep asking back about specific grants, I'm quite busy, so it would be better for me to have direction and to check in on the basics and to go with it and apply. I just want to make sure I'm not applying for something and have it be rejected by the collective after i put work into it.
One of the grants i'm looking at requires that a portion of funds go to staffing. This means hiring a part- or full-time person to run the operating side of things. If we aren't interested in having a staff member, then I need to remove these grants from my list. Operating grants will never be successful if there is no paid staff to run it. In fact, FYI, many grants won't be successful without the grantor knowing that someone is being paid to ensure that the project is completed and successful.
Here are my questions:
-Do we want to hire someone (from our collective or not) to work on stuff at the space?-Do we want to take money from the city?-Do we want to take money from the province?-Do we want to take money from the DTES cultural infrastructure grants?-Do we want to take money from the Canada Council for the Arts and BC Council for the Arts?-Are we ok with asking for money for festivals?-Are we ok with asking for money for workshops?-Are we ok with asking for money for community support (training/resources, especially technology).
Thanks!
