Hey guys,
I hate to be a spoil sport (again) on this topic, which we've discussed at
some length in previous meetings, but:
we still aren't at a place where we can afford to pay bands higher
percentages. Last month, we had enough for rent, plus about $150 leftover,
which meant Brendan (thankfully he was able to!) had to front money for
beer, and sending in the paperwork for our society status had to wait til
after our first weekend of shows (which screwed up plans for noise fest a
bit, potentially).
Again, I'd love to be able to pay bands more! I think that'd fucking rule
and yea, punks supporting punks, etc., but realistically, unless we secure
some sort of extra funding to help us pay our rent, we simply can't pay out
more from the door yet. Cause that would mean not being able to pay our
rent.
The only other option, if yall REALLY wana pay bands more, would be to
increase the volume of shows we put on pretty dramatically... which I think
is a bad idea if we want to avoid burnout and focus on shows we actually
want to do (we don't wana get stuck in the position we were at with nowhere
space when we were putting on a lot of shows that we didn't even like or
care about and collective people got resentful and burnt out).
I kinda feel like people aren't hearing me on this one, and in all honesty,
it's a little frustrating. We can talk about it again at the next meeting
if folks want but I'm just trying to be realistic about where we're at
financially.
As for the institute show itself I'm down with it.
sorry for being "that guy", haha
