Hey folks,
Legs and I met today to go over soundproofing things. We came up with a
design and a strategy. Our priority is the front windows, since the
Ovaltine folks don't seem too concerned about noise thus far. We are going
to tackle the top window first, the one that spans the entire width of the
space.
I found an ad for some free wood on CL, and we are going to try to scrounge
around try to come up with materials as best as possible. However, our
materials list thus far is:
- 156 board feet of 2x2 (16x 10' 2x2 *or* 20 x 8' 2x4 if we can find
someone who can rip them in half.) *COST = $62*
- Nine 4' x 8' sheets of plywood or particle board (we can also piece
these together to a certain degree, but these numbers are based on the
total area of the windows we are soundproofing.) *COST = $270*
- Adhesive/wood glue *COST = $20*
- metal/wood screws *COST = $40*
- Styrofoam (we don't know how much yet because we don't know how far
the cut boxes will go, but if anyone has any leads hit us up!)
These prices are based on the Home Depot website, and if we were to go
there tomorrow and get all the materials for soundproofing the windows we
would be looking at around $400. Clearly, this is not what I want to do--we
need to scavenge as much as possible (especially for plywood/plywood-esque
materials) and that will be one of my missions this week.
Legs is going to ask a coworker about a styrofoam hook-up, and we are both
on the hunt on Craigslist.
Does anyone have any thoughts about what colour to paint the outside of the
wood (the side that faces the windows)? We are thinking white. Also, please
share any other thoughts and questions.
That's all for now, talk soon.
<3 B.
