Hey all! I was just contacted by Wendy Pedersen via facebook. For those of
you who maybe don't know her, she's a long-standing community organizer in
the DTES who is highly involved in a ton of stuff around the hood.
Apparently one of the groups she works with has had an issue with their
meeting space and she asked me if it'd be possible to use the Black Lab on
Saturday afternoons starting in April for meetings.... here is what she
said specifically:

"Hi Megan, I heard through the grapevine that you may have a connection to
the space on east hastings near the empress - it looks like an art space?
I'm looking for a space to use for community organizing on Saturday
afternoons.

we just got booted out of the space that we thought we had lined up for
saturday april 18 and now desperate! We would need it from 11am until about
5 pm but we could shrink that if you need us to. Super cool program 12-1:30
strategizing with sro tenants about how to charge their landlords for
Maintnenace violations and 2-4 short video and circle time with a community
elder."

I think this would be a ridiculously easy way to open the space up for a
rad community project that would have hardly any impact on us, we'd
basically just need to let folks in and maybe help set up the chairs or
something. Brendan has already said he's down to help out with this and so
am I. I guess the only concern may be that I don't know what time noise
fest starts at on the 18th/what time folks are gona be setting up but it
sounds like she's quite flexible with the times so that should be easy to
work out, i think? Is everyone down? she's hoping to have an answer by
tomorrow afternoon so that she can put the word out so if anyone has any
concerns, please let them be known ASAP. it seems like it'd be a cool way
to connect to folks doing rad shit in the DTES to me ... thoughts?
questions/concerns? if everyone is cool with it (which frankly i hope folks
are :) ) --- anju, what time are ppl setting up for noise fest at on the
18th?
