Antamina Mining Fund handled over 600 million soles

Huaraz Notices
Tuesday 25th January, 2011

In 3 years the money of Ancash was used to create NGOs and duplicate works
without fighting extreme poverty.

The President of the Regional State Workers Front of Ancash (FRETEA), William
Capcha, expressed concern about the scandalous way that the company Antamina
will continue to manage the millions of Soles (Peruvian currency) that is the
Mining Contribution that belongs to the people of Ancash.  Given that from 2008
to 2010, they have had the luxury of handling more than 600 million soles and
have done nothing to fight the 5% of extreme poverty that exists in the
highlands of Ancash, where today, you can go and see how districts, population
centres and communities of their famous areas of influence, are becoming more
poor and undernourished.

The only thing I find every day are a number of NGOs, with people coming in
modern trucks and people from outside the area that just arrive in San Marcos,
are afraid of the poverty and leave, but already taking possession of the money
that was given by Antamina to do works supposed to alleviate poverty.

Today, San Marcos and other districts that are part of the Antamina influence,
are mostly without NGOs that are they dedicate to making papers and papers they
call projects where they spend thousands of soles, that are not executed or
if they are running these projects are already on their way, because they've
gone to other NGOs or district municipalities.

It is a shame to see how the famous Antamina Mining Fund, a bureaucratic entity
that in these 3 years has handled more than 600 million soles, continues wasting
the money of Ancash in seeding NGOs, whose owners are the children of the
father and are making easy money in the midst ofpeoples poverty.

----------

If we want to make a comparison between the Regional Government and the Antamina
Mining Fund, I believe that there is no difference, because they
have administered so many millions of soles with the story of the fight against
poverty, for works in education, health and training for the villagers,
yet today none of that is a reality.

Therefore, it is necessary for civil society and grassroots organizations begin
to monitor the Antamina Mining Fund that would have paid for the political
campaign of Frije's re-election as regional president, said Capcha.
