  Dear all,

I was just phoned, in London, from the BHP Billiton head office in
Melbourne, asking whether the new Chair could meet with me the week
before the London AGM on 21 October. I said that London Mining Network's
policy as a network was not to participate in private meetings with
companies, and that Colombia Solidarity Campaign (one of LMN's member
groups, with which I am also involved) does meet with companies but only
in the presence of, or if requested by, representatives of the
communities with which we work. So I said that it would not be possible
to meet. I asked the caller to pass on to the Chair our strong view that
at the AGM questions on the annual report should be considered before
that report is voted on, rather than at the end of the meeting. She said
she would pass this on.

Interesting that they felt it necessary to request this private meeting
before the AGM. I wonder what they have in store for us at the AGM. A
charm offensive or a full frontal attack?

Richard Solly,
London Mining Network and Colombia Solidarity Campaign.
