Dear friends,
Having just finished several weeks' intense activity around the Rio
Tinto and Anglo American corporates AGMs in London recently, we are now
beginning to mplan for the BHP Billiton AGM here in late October.
Groups in Edinburgh (about 450 miles north of London and therefore, in
the British context, a long way away!) are interested in hosting any
overseas visitors that may attend the BHP Billiton AGM, so that they
could meet members of the Scottish Parliament and speak at a public
meeting about how Scottish financial institutions contribute to human
rights abuse and environmental destruction around the world through
their funding of mining companies.
We need to start thinking now about who might attend the London AGM of
BHP Billiton. This is because we will need a clear idea of who is
definitely coming at least six weeks in advance so that we can plan
accompaniment and accommodation. Could you let me know as soon as you
can if you know of anyone who might be able to attend? I am afraid we
cannot offer funding as we have not yet got any money for work beyond
August, but I will be doing funding applications over the coming few
weeks and that situation might change. It would be good to have at least
one person from Indonesia and at least one from Colombia and maybe
others too.
All the best,
Richard Solly,
London Mining Network.
